So, I just done all my fluids. When I took the engine under tray off it was full of oil and gunge. The front right drive shaft seal has gone hence why only half the amount of oil drained from the diff. Private Indy has quoted £222.60 for the repair under a separate warranty I had when I bought the car. If you do your oils it might be worth a check for any leaks. Cheers Kev.

Just to be sure that there’s no confusion here.

If you have a 5-speed transmission (ZF 5HP24 or GM 5L40-E) you have the New Venture Gear NV225 transfer box.

If you have a 6- or 8-speed transmission (ZF 6HP26/28 or ZF 8HP70) you have the Magna Steyr DD295 transfer box.

The two transfer boxes require different fluids.

For the earlier unit (NV225) the fluid friction characteristics have to satisfy the requirements of the Torsen Type-B centre differential and the range-change synchroniser cones – hence you should only use Castrol BOT 26 FMB 1 75W-90 (1 litre capacity).

For the later transfer box (DD295) the friction modifiers in the fluid have to match the requirements of the multi-plate clutch, which performs the front-to-rear torque biasing & centre diff. lock, and the range-change synchroniser cones – hence you should only use Shell TF 0753 (1.5 litre capacity).

Reviving this thread to see if things have moved on in the last few years; I’m having trouble finding Shell TF 0753. But I can see that Smith & Allan specifically state conformance to Land Rover IYK 500010LRN 0753TF 0753. To quote from their spec:

Quote:
Transfer Fluid 0753 is intended for use in Jaguar / Land rover vehicles which incorporate electronically controlled active transfer cases, where the fluid TF 0753 is recommended for use by the original equipment manufacturer
.

Here’s the link https://www.smithandallan.com/product/smit...fluid-4187

@RRPhil was very specific on use of Shell TF 0753 so what’s people’s experience today? Anyone used the Smith & Allan branded equivalent oil ? TDV8 4.4 2012

I've been using Ravenol TF0870 for the last 70,000 kms without any noticible change from the LR oil.

I’ve used Smith & Allen oils with no known issues. Totally understand the apprehension regards getting correct spec. I believe Smith & Allen have an association with Shell. I used their “ TF 0753 “ in my t/fer box, diff oils, & their 5w30 C1 engine oil.

I've used Smith and Allan oils on my Diff's/Transfer and Engine - all in spec and no issues. Give them a call - really helpful people.

I've documented it all here - https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic63354.html
