L322 BMW 4.4 V8 - loose hoses at rear of engine

Hi all,

When doing some research, i.e. get a feel for what I have to do in the future, into replacing the PCV valve I noticed two hoses which are not connected to anything. I’ve checked RAVE and can’t find out what these are for so not sure it is something I need to fix. Does anyone here know?

First one is a transparant tube. I’ve watched RSW’s YouTube video about replacing the valve and the hose is also visible and loose there so it’s probably fine but don’t like not knowing for sure.
Second one is a black tube which is turned at the end to face downwards (presumably to prevent stuff falling in). It comes from the rear of the car and is attached with a clip to the transmission.

They appear to be the vent hoses for the gearbox. The should not be connected to anything at that end. Leave them as they are.

Regards

John

Thanks, John! Ventilation was my theory as well but couldn’t find anything to back that up. Glad that’s okay. 2002 L322 Vogue 4.4L V8 (BMW petrol) in Java Black
