Out of interest what sort of fuel figures did you achieve? Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue
Had- 2008 TDV8 Vogue SE in Java black
Had - 2007 S/C in Stornoway Grey

Sitting at 65 it averaged around 28mpg.

It had the restricted performance light on the dashboard and the engine management light on too so not sure if that could be doing anything to affect the economy.

David, mine did about that at that speed and around 20mpg around town, I always thought that was OK for the performance it offered....  Pete

I ask because my 3.6 was returning just over 30 on a run up to Aberdeen earlier this week , doing around 65mph and I rarely see anything over 20 around town, so it’s certainly closer than I had imagined.

That's the direct injected modern petrol 5.0 Compared to the much older 4.2... The 5.0 is much more like a diesel in its design with its direct injection fuel system...

TD or V8, consumption is much closer now with the 5.0...

Looks smart! Nice to see the proper sized reg plate too.

Slightly stunned by the MpG as well, my TDV8 was only 1mpg more than that at similar speeds

I hate looking at Range Rovers with the wrong sized plate on them.

I’ll be putting my plate on this at some point but I’ve got the proper sized one that Rob at Duckworths sorted me out with.

I've been thinking about this more and more and doing even more reading online, especially on the American forums...

From what I've managed to piece together, when the chain tensioners on the 5.0 start to wear you feel a misfire and will get misfire codes appear before you get a Crankshaft/Camshaft correlation fault appear.

This car has zero chain rattle and not once on the 426 mile journey home did I feel the slightest of misfires. Not even when climbing the lanes to the house at low revs.

There are no misfire codes stored either, the only code stored when I collected the car was:

Having had my IID tool on the car tonight monitoring the live values, I can see that there’s about a 5 degree difference between the intake cam on Bank 1 and Bank 2.

I’m convinced I could hear a little chain rattle off it tonight when it started as well.

Chain kit it is then Just waiting for Rob at Duckworths to come back to me with a cost for the timing kit now.

I guess it’s best to get that out the way now, been following a guy in the US doing the replacement and he has had a nightmare with it.

Prevention is key
