I've tried that a few times 4RRS but good thought.

We used it when I had the alignment done.

Had a friend in the car today and he commented on how harsh the ride was.

He thought it was harsher than his new shape MX-5 RF lowered on BC racing coil over suspension!

Is there any way you can manually send the signal to the dampers? Force them soft? I’m guessing not very easy, but would prove something one way or the other…

It is possible to buy all kinds of signal generators that are not expensive, however, I do not have any knowledge as to where you could 'tap in' to the circuits to 'inject' a pre-set signal to feed all four dampers.

I'd need some sort of generator to create the 1.5 amp 526hz(?) PWM signal.

Thing is the car is sending the 1.5 amp signal but the duty cycle is never more than 35-40%

Should it be higher or is that normal?

I'd imagine a generated 1.5amp signal from an external device would effectively be 100% duty cycle

My L322 only shows 35-40% duty cycle when travelling at about 20 kph over very rough hard ground.

1.5A isn't being sent, its the current drawn when the voltage is applied to the coil which has a particular resistance. However applying 40% of maybe 13V which is around 5-6V of constant voltage won't necessarily operate the solenoid the same as 40% duty cycle of 13V due to the different magnetic fields created by the solenoid operating at 13V vs 5-6V. That the specified maximum current draw of around 1.5A occurs with only 35-40% duty cycle is a feature of the solenoid design which makes me think that there is nothing wrong with the powering of the solenoids.

There was a post elsewhere regarding these harsh riding cars, stating they disconnected the drop links and did a test drive to find the ride improved.
This was, iirc, an l322 which suggests the roll bar was to blame?

Not sure what the setup is for the l405, but could similar be tried here? Just to see if there is a difference?

Not suggesting they should be permanently disconnected btw… Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8

That's really helpful Graeme thank you.

So it's more than likely something else then.

I always see a duty cycle of 35-40% no matter if the suspension is really firm one day and slightly better the next.

I have read that post about disconnecting the roll bar FFRR and yes that will make suspension softer on any car I think.

I can't decide what in the anti roll bar system would make a difference on a 322 as its literally just a bar, some drop links and D bushes.

The 405 system is totally different as on my car its hydraulic, computer controlled.

You could probably disable the roll bar by disconnecting the connector on the valve block that controls the hydraulics. I think when disconnected there will be no pressure applied and effectively disconnected.

That being said , if it errors I don’t know if that would create secondary adjustments in other systems to compensate (like the damper rates ) V8 or else ...

Hi Fisha,

I was reading the WSM about it as you happened to post.

When there's a fault in the dynamic reponse system the roll bars default to a 'locked bars' state... a bit like becoming a live axle.

I need to do some live data checking to ensure they are operating and not stuck in this 'locked bars' condition.

An interesting update from Patrick at GAP.

He's looked at my cars CCF and noted to me that it looks 'abnormal' I mentioned the things I had changed to him and he said its not those but something else... interesting indeed.

I've been provided with an 'as built' CCF file to flash.

That's a shame.....

May be teaching you to suck eggs but I take it you have had all the mechanical parts of the suspension and steering looked at, the active ARB's like wearing out bit's and it doesn't take much play in various arms to degrade the ride....?? Pete

Yes Pete all been checked,

Once by me on the drive prying on everything.

Again by me and the owner of the garage by work, he's a big land rover guy which helps.

And then a 3rd time when I had it aligned on the Hunter machine. They said they wouldn't adjust it if there was any suspension components requiring replacement due to play/wear.

I've done plenty of battery disconnects Stan but since I've just flashed it I'll do you as you suggest and disconnect again.

It honestly feels like a software bug is stopping the systems working correctly.

But I can't have had the same bug on 3 cars can I?

Maybe they all caught the bug off you.... Shocked

How's Pat doing with the ECU reflashing...??

If that doesn't work is there anything else...?? Pete
