Long time L322 owner here, but as I live near the ULEZ zone, we've decided to modernise the family wagon and so have bought a 2019 P400E Autobiography. It's a lovely car in Byron Blue with Ebony/Ivory interior.

It was a private sale, so no warranty (I am hoping this doesn't prove to be a bad call..)

I have a couple of questions for the learned L405 owners:

1.) The motorised rear armrest top flap hinges are broken. Can these be repaired or replaced without replacing the entire armrest? If not, I might just glue the catch closed as it's a pretty useless space and I'm worried it may cause the motorised mechanism to jam.

2.) I am slightly confused by the hybrid function. Lot of our journeys are short, sub 2 mile trips (school runs, nipping into town etc) and I would expect it to do this in full EV mode. This morning, it was 100% charged and my wife ran my son to the station - 0.8 miles each way, and despite the EV button being pressed, it used the engine the whole way. Last night, I picked my daughter up, and in a 3.8 mile round trip it only used EV mode for 2.0 miles. We're driving it gently, so it's not due to having a heavy right foot.

Any feedback greatly appreciated.

3) Many Hybrids will run the engine if cabin heat is required, not 100% on Range Rover but that may be the cause. BMW i3 Electric Car

My hinge flaps also broke. Blame a young, inquisitive boy strong in arm and poor product design. LR quoted £6.5k to replace because the whole dumb armrest is a single unit. So I keep it closed now and brainwashed the manchild but I am considering self adhesive acrylic hinges as a self repair when I can be bothered. For now: gaffer tape to avoid issues with seat fold down.

Mine runs happily EV only but if the engine has not run in a while or, sometimes, if it’s rather cold the engine kicks in regardless of my best intentions. Let it do its thing. It’s not like electricity is cheap these days anyways. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso

Mine starts and stays in EV mode almost every time, including when the external temperature is 3-4 degrees C. However, the cabin heating takes forever to the point that I wonder if it's even working; I mean 15 minutes + to get to 20 degrees. Sometimes it will fire up the engine after about 5 minutes which gets the cabin temperature up pretty fast.

So long story short, yours should be doing its EV thing more than it seems to be. 2018 P400e AB LWB

Seems to have settled down now and is behaving consistently. Often uses the engine for the first mile and then switches to EV. We’ve done a lot of 8 mile journeys this months taking my youngest to perform in a panto, and on those days we average 85-90mpg which I’m happy with. Have done one 150 mile motorway journey and saw 29mpg, so a decent improvement all round over the old 3.6 TDV8.
