I changed my TV tuner and have now ruined my car?

Hi all,

My TV tuner was not working, Monday night removed the old TV tuner... Confirmed water had damaged the old tuner (Digital 2010 3.6td VCool

Left the tuner out whilst my new one arrived today - so unable to use my screen whilst the tuner was out.

New one came today, fit it and unable to click aux, TV, radio or anything... No problem, thought it was a dodgy tuner, put the old one back in... Same symptoms unable to access aux, cd player or radio (does not let me chose it on the touch screen, all I get in a beep when trying to select DAB for example) tried to make a call from my phone... Rings but no volume in the car at all. Other person answers can't hear hear them...

Plug the new TV tuner in, try make a call. Can't hear the other person... Been at it almost an hour now no sound and screen does not let me select any of the sources

I have not bolted any of the bolts back, the unit is just in there free standing whilst I try figure this out. Any idea what I've done?

The fibre-optic cable is flashing red and literally all I did was remove it on Monday and installed the new one today... Now both units are not working, no sound nor can I click anywhere?

Are the TV tuners the same part number AND the same Firmware version? The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom Smile

Hello,

Yes however, even my old tuner is not working now. I've put the old one back in and unable to click on anything in the informant system.

Put the new tuner in and same thing....

Hate to say it, but it sounds like water ingress somewhere in the rear left corner. I had this with my old 3.6 and was hoping that the 4.4 wasn't going to suffer the same fate. It can be a world of pain, as it stops everything working. Your looks like a 4.4 (as mine is too now) so I hope for both our sakes it's not water related. Someone will doubtless be along soon with a more constructive reply - hopefully! Wink The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom Smile

Hi Jmc,

I don't know how - everything worked perfect (apart from the TV) up until Monday.

I took the unit out, and today a new one got delivered.... No sound or anything now on both TV receivers and the old one now doesn't even allow me to access CD player aux or anything nor is there any sound

Hi, sounds like when it's booting up it's not seeing the other devices on the MOST loop.

It could be the systems got itself tied up in a knot. When stuff like this happens to me, switch it all off, lock the car up with the key fob, give it 30 secs and unlock it, sometimes that resets everything.

If that fails disconnect the battery negative, go have a cup of tea, come back 10 mins later and reconnect the battery. I'm always surprised that this actually works in 50% of cases so worth a try.

Beyond that I'd start looking at fuses and power resets of each device in turn, it doesn't sound like a faulty unit.

Nice cup of Tetley's can't beat it.

I know it’s different architecture but on the older BMW based systems the option didn’t appear/were greyed out on the menu screen until said device identified itself on the ibus. As mentioned above…. I know that didn’t always happen straight away but it shouldn’t take this long. Might end up getting one of those fibre loop things off eBay and bridging devices until they come back on, to maybe find the faulty one. I know you’ve put your old one back in so should be working but that’s the limit of my knowledge I’m afraid. Plus 1 for battery off for a bit….
