These are to be found on quite a few telegraph poles in the Hornchurch area. Some also have a dome thing wired in to it.
Any ideas what they can be and should I be removing them?

If you own the pole I suppose you could remove it...

Fibre Internet?

As above, they’re for fibre internet

I was joking about removing them of course, no neck winding required. I wondered if it was something to do with ULEZ or pay per mile.

It's beyond me why they are still bothering trying to get wired broadband to residential properties, 5g mobile networks are fast enough for 99% of of households.

The government should focus their efforts on getting full UK mobile coverage. Current

Unfortunately, if the government (not that it's their problem since 5G is privately owned infrastructure) were to put time/effort/cash into getting coverage into every home, the usage of millions of households concurrently would saturate the available coverage and reduce its usefulness to zero without a lot more infrastructure in place.

You only have to watch the effect of a football match, concert, festival, or whatever on the speed and reliability of a 5G connection, even in major towns and cities with excellent coverage, to see what'd happen.

As a country, we'd need tens of thousands more cells than we have at present to provide sufficient bandwidth for every home to use 5G connectivity as their source of broadband connectivity. 2012 (L322) 4.4TDV8 Vogue SE, RSE, Fuji White over Arabica.

Hi, 5G is generally only confined to high density population areas because it's relatively low range and building penetration is poor. The further you go from the mast the more "noise" is created and the atmosphere, any anything in between, also reduces the signal strength and thus the amount of data able to reach you reliably.

Higher frequencies give the opportunity for higher bandwidth, however, that's shared amongst all users, so your phone may well be showing that your in 5G mode, but if there are a dozen of you using the same tower then you'll sharing that and so you could well be running at 3G speeds or lower.

Lower frequencies give much higher range and better penetration, but support less bandwidth. So the likes of aircraft, ships & subs tend to have VLF systems for essential comms, whereas city mobiles can reach almost microwave frequencies.

Consider it like water in a leaky pipe, the further you are away from the tap the less pressure you get, the more leaks (higher bandwidth) you have the less distance the pipe can be to get water to the end. Hi, forgot to add, a 5G cell is about a mile in diameter at the edge, anything closer to the mast can run faster, the closer to the edge, or beyond you just not going to get 5G speeds.

It will never be economically viable to get 100% nationwide coverage for 5G, there simply isn't the traffic in rural areas to support the business case for a mast there.

The big providers only give 99% coverage predictions, and that's population reachable by mobile not geographical area, that is about 85% coverage and that's not 5G speeds either. Fuji White / Jet 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster

In my time as a tech I installed around 4000, fibre lines, pstn lines, fibre to the cabinet and anything else that was available. In Ireland we are spending 3 billion euro to get fibre to most homes and then wireless where it is unattainable. The beauty about fibre over wireless is it can be upgraded quite easily with minimal interruption, in other words, for most 150mb will do but if you want a gigabit its there, using the same lines they can increased that over time to 2 gig etc with minimal infrastructure upgrades.

In my house I'm using a P2P internet provider. I get 50 down and 10 up which considering where I am is great. In 2 years we will have FTTH and for things like CCTV, High def streaming, gaming etc that will be a game changer. Though the wireless does us fine, its limited. I cannot upload 10 cameras, have a home office, have streaming etc without something giving up.

Wireless is definitely a solution for 10-20% but for the masses you cannot beat the reliability and uptime of well terminated fibre. Current yokes

I just posted the latest from Starlink, it's not going to give you such high data rates, but once you park up and pitch the antenna, you're away, anywhere.

Not cheap, but I was wondiering if anyone has tried it in the real world of offroading.
