Nice one! May I ask what he charges for that work?

PM sent - not sure whether it's OK to share the price Confused

How often should we contemplate a Bodsy gearbox service ?

I don't know the official answer - I think JLR say sealed for life, but others have rightly pointed out that 'life' translates to 'warranty life'. ZF who manufacture it say something like 80k - other people say sooner - ultimately, I think better late than never - though there seem to be others who say that beyond a certain level of damage, fresh oil can make things worse Confused

I've also been fobbed off with 'sealed for life' by garages who can't / don't want to actually do it and in hindsight, with I'd had it done earlier

In practice, one of these boxes can manage 150,000 miles or more on the genuine fluid.

However, every 50,000-70,000 miles depending on driving conditions is probably most advisable. The genuine XF fluid is fantastic stuff.

A flush is probably only needed in the event of problems or once in a vehicle's life. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

I think I read that ZF recommended 10 years if I remember right.

Don’t think gearbox sump etc came off. Megaflush is like a blood transfusion using oil cooler pipes…. Happy to be corrected…..

Does a 'megaflush' use the genuine ZF fluid? The sump has a filter and magnet and can develop leaks (mine did) to the seal with age as the rubber hardens so it' a good idea to have this replaced with a genuine one. Not sure if this is ofered as an option during a megaflush? The service kit includes a new sump and enough oil to change about 1/2 the oil which IMO is enough to prolong / preserve the gearbox. The idea of 'flushing' certainly sounds good but I'm yet to be convinced it offers a genuinley better outcome than a 'service' using genuine oil and a sump. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

The mega flush is a process, so I guess you could use whatever fluid you want.....

The difference between a service & mega flush is explained on this thread.

TBH, there are so many opposing views and opinions on the gearbox servicing that it's easy to get into a kind of paralysis - which is what I did. You just can't decide what to do for the best. In the end I decided to go with Bodsy - he's well reviewed on here and a specialist - that's all he does. I told him to just do everything that he would recommend and haven't asked too many questions for fear of going down another analysis paralysis loop.....

A megaflush uses a lot of fluid so I suspect the cost of running it with the genuine ZF fluid would be prohibitivley expensive. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Yes, genuine fluid only for the final fill.

If flushing, a transmission fluid ZF 6 (e.g. AG55) or 8 (e.g. AG60) compliant is sufficient. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

I've spent the last 3 months of emailing & leaving messages with Bodsy & as he's not got back to me have decided to do it myself. I have research the whole thing & as to a Megga flush vs partial oil change & new filter/pan I've come down with the thought that its best to do a partial genuine ZF oil change & filter and then in 12 months time just do another oil change without changing the filter of course. That should of changed at least three quarters of the oil. I will then have piece of mind that the filter & oil has all been done with genuine parts. I will also change some of the internal seals at the same which costs very little to do. But whoever you speak to has their own opinion on the subject, so I recon just replace like for like & you won't go far wrong. 2010 RR Autobiography 5.0 SC
