Shiney steering wheel

Well, after reading a couple of threads in reference to the Gliptone cleaning and Conditioning kits for leather and upholstery, here are some observations...

My steering wheel was 'orrible: Shiney, sticky and without life. Instead of buying a new wheel, i have CLEANED IT Thumbs Up

The gliptone kit arrived in two days, comes with two bottles (cleaner and conditioner) for £22.

Here are the before and after pictures:

i am truly amazed at the difference. hopefully you will agree - the pictures (for once) do the process justice Bow down

The process of application was helped by working the cleaner through several applications, and using an old soft bristled tooth brush to get right into the grain.

The pictures (from the same distance) show the shiney finish (almost like buffed plastic) reverting to the grained leather that it should be.

The final pictures, once all has dried and the conditioner has had time to penetrate, will be posted tomorrow (all being well).

I also ordered the Leather air freshners at the same time (buy 2 get one free)for that factory fresh smell Cool

Really fantastic stuff. The wheel in my old RRS looked much worse than Jammy's photos and this stuff restored it back to it's former glory and more importantly saved the expense of a new wheel Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

mines pretty worn too hence my sexy steering wheel cover but after cleaning mine it does appear to be worn rather than just dirt. Was yours the same ? Present :2008 TDV8 HSE

Mine was dirt more than anything. The wearing isnt noticdeable as the gliptone kit removed so much of the dirt that the leather grain is back to life.

I've just been out to gliptone my steering wheel, and before I started it looked shiny but was not sticky. I have Ivory leather seats, so the slightest mark gets cleaned off quickly, but I doubt the steering wheel has ever been cleaned before.

The first go with the gliptone cleaner made the nail brush and rag filthy and the wheel rim very sticky, I can't believe how much grime can stick to a steering wheel. After three more goes with the cleaner it's started to look ok, so I've rubbed in a couple of coats of gliptone conditioner and called it a night.

I'm hoping I will be pleasantly surprised when I get in tomorrow morning.

I've used gliptone for years and you cant beat its conditioning powers Smile

I use Zymol for cleaning though, have a look at my blog as there are lots of photos of the process, it just takes time, say about 3 hours all in going round the interior and the steering wheel, like the drivers seat, is about an hour on its own really as they cake up real quick Sad

Its better to aply it now as well while there is some warmth still about to help it get into the leather, otherwise it just sits on top when it gets below about 7-8'c ive found

It's much improved, but I reakon it could be better, so I'm going to remove the steering wheel at the weekend to give it a final clean and condition.

i had maybe three or four passes, left it, then did another couple to get the results. Its also worth remembering to leave the cleaner to work in before you use a damp cloth to remove the excess. you definately get the best results following the instructions to the letter, this is one job that offers no shortcuts.
