Towing equipment

My car's a 2007 TDV8 and I want a tow-bar. It's seemingly fitted as standard with absolutely nothing, (unlike the D3) so I think I need:

Towing Armature to suit 2007 year car
Tow-ball (probably go for the removable type
Dedicated LR towing electrics kit with the sockets of choice (12N / 12S in my case)

What have I missed?

Can this be fitted DIY? I did my D3 and it was a doddle.

Help appreciated from those who've done this already.... Graham

It is definitely doable.
Hardest parts are taking bumper off then on again and lifting the towbar supports into place and bolting in at same time but I did mine myself with the with just helping to along the rear bumper Smile

It's very straightforward in terms of complexity - just a few bolts to undo. However, some can be very hard to get moving and the ones you need to get at inside the boot don't have much space to swing the ratchet around so take ages to undo. Getting the bumper unclipped from the rear quarter panels is a bit fiddly and I was terrified something would snap but it came off ok with a bit of gentle persuasion.

You could get it done in a couple of hours but set aside half a day and you'll be fine.

will send a PM shortly with prices

you can go for a fixed height which is cheaper than the detachable,
only difference is detachable obviously easier to remove, but your fixed height is held on with a big pin and R clip so can be removed aswell. You can paypal direct using - www.paypal.me/duckworthparts

Graham

You may want to check out these guys for the heavy metal - they were the best price around when I needed to get another detachable bar for the armature the previous owner had left on mine.

http://www.pfjones.co.uk/range-rover-2005-detachable-tow-bar.html

Don't know what their electrics are like, but it seems to add £160 to the price for a dedicated wiring loom - for that money I would hope they are including the ECU's as well!!

You can give them a call to see what the wiring includes.

I am sure that Dan will give you a very good quote Thumbs Up , but in case he can't get the landrover stamped westfalia manufactured price down to the same level as the westfalia stuff, here's another option.

When I bought my detachable bar from these guys it came with the storage box for the rear with landrover part numbers stamped on it. The tow ball cover is westfalia branded instead of landrover, but this was a small sacrifice as it was 50% of the best LR price I could get at the time (before I was aware of Dan)

Simon

Armature Bar with detachable or drop plate tow bar from PF Jones and LR electrics from Dan is probably the best and most cost effective way to go Thumbs Up
