So just to wrap this up.....
I had the starter motor replaced .... no change! It wouldn't start. Further tests revealed the battery to be at fault, dropping to 5volt when cranking. Battery replaced ... |

Sounds as though we have a very similar problem! Just checked mine and same as you, the thick pipe is going nice and cold. Air did seem cooler in the cabin but still not cold.
