The jlr engine is one the most reliable engines in a range rover. The BMW is one of the worst.
I'd place it worse than the crank breaking diesels which are at least reliable until the day they break.
 Dash cup holder won't come out fix....

Engine light flashing is a misfire, I'd look at the easy stuff first before going to VANOS. Oil on plugs, blocked cat, PCV issues, vacuum leak can all cause a misfire or rough running.

Surprised at the lack of TD6s.

I assume the lack of 4.4 JLRs have something to do with the introduction of the TDV8, I'd expect the NA petrol engine to last longer in general.

I know the jag engine version is seen as more reliable but in my market they are still 30k $ used vs 17k for the bmw version.

Today I felt it in P!

I have an intermittent belt squeal when cold - could a worn/loose tensioner cause the vibration d'you think? Seemed worse when AC cycled but was still there with AC off.
