Headlamp Wiring Advice Needed?

Need to hack into the headlamp wiring to set up my fogs as DRLs. There are warnings everywhere about the 25000 volts on the bi-xenons so want to make sure I get this right!

I need to pick up an ignition feed (to turn on the DRLs) and a "switched on" feed (to turn the DRLs off when the headlights come on)

Reading the Electrical Library pdf it says that an ignition feed is fed to both headlamps by a RED/GREEN wire. This tallies as there is a RED/GREEN wire going to both. (see pictures)

The Electrical Library then says the "switched on" feed is through a YELLOW/BLUE for the RH side and WHITE/GREEN for the left. These are thicker than the RED/GREEN wires. (see pictures)

Can anyone confirm I am on the right lines, before I blow myself or the car up Wink .

i wish i took notice of my set up tim.....stick a multimeter in the headlamp plug and do the usual like turning on the ignition and read the readings .. ... - .- -.

The description of the wiring and feeds for halogen and bi-xenon appears to be the same, but i don't know enough about it to say yeah or nay. Suggest start a new thread for this? Wink .

Joe, the high voltage is within your headlamp pal... The feeds to the plugs are all standard 12v, the ECU's and High voltage box is hidden inside the rear of your headlamp...

And yes the wiring colours you mentioned are the ones you want...

Really?

My tdv8 has xenons and I thought they all did Question

Are you talking about the separate high beams? If so, I believe it is normal for these to be halogen still - something to do with the fact that xenon doesn't come on instantaneously, important for flashing the lights - the main beam shifts it's pattern to be full beam slightly later

In all L322's from 02-08 you can get both Xenon and Halogen headlamps depending on spec... Only the 09my> that comes with Xenon headlamps across the range...

tim,

the high voltage only occurs from the ballast to the hid bulb, the ballast is fed by 12 volts which ends at the end of the plug .... ... - .- -.

ok, had a look but its all taped up pretty well but what i can see is that the ignition is green/brown and the headlight on feed is yellow/green.....hope this helps.. ... - .- -.

LH side (Passenger side RHD)

YELLOW/GREEN stripe is the dipped beam
WHITE/GREEN stripe is the full beam

Is there an "easy" way to put the headlight unit back in. Seems you have to fiddle and struggle for 15 minutes, then suddenly it slots into place Evil or Very Mad .
