Would it be an idea to get the codes read to try and establish the fault before you carry on changing parts?

I looked that the manual and it seems to sit underneath the inlet pipe from filter to engine on the UK driver side of the car.

Just go online and search for the manual, you can download it and you have all the info. I vaguely remember that you can find a link through the Wiki as well.

Found it http://landrover.workshop-manuals.com/l322-b/index.php?id=336 MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Personally I'd say you need to look at the crank sensor not the cam sensor

Confused myself with my original reply post so googled 'What is the difference between camshaft and crankshaft sensor?'

Got the following answer:-

Quote:
Answer

Cam sensor usually senses the position of the timing belt or timing chain gear and tells the computer when #1 cylinder is at top dead center. In other words, when #1 cylinder comes up. Crank sensor tells the computer when to fire the spark plugs in the rest of the cylinders. In other words, as ther crank shaft goes around it tells the computer when each piston comes up so it can fire it's spark plug.

In my experience (not personal but know a few people who have had this issue) its usually the crank sensor that plays up, possibly due to its position it picks up moisture and fails - a simple google search for

'car wont start when warm cam position sensor' returns alot of hits.

I'm quite possibly wrong tho so as PaulB said its probably best to get the codes read first, although the crank sensor should be quite easy to get to and change/test.

Most engines will run with a poor cam sensor reading but as mentioned all along, the crank sensor is a critical sensor without which an engine will not run at all.

Given that it starts ok from cold, perhaps you have a faulty temperature sensor (fuel or ambient air temp) which is confusing the fueling for the hot starting? Air flow meter is another sensor which could affect it.

Just to throw in my 2p's worth, the cam sensor on the td6 is located under the plastic trim on top of the engine, the diagrams above are from the v8 and located in a completely different place 👍
