United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Santorini Black
New set of Pirelli Scorpions fitted today.

New MOT with 'advisories' on all four tyres, 3mm on one, metal in one, split in another and NSF bald on outer edge but OK across 3/4 of tread so allowable.
Passed MOT, but I thought I might as well go with a full set.
Quotes mostly around £1100+.
Got 4 at Surbiton Tyre and Wheel (Surrey) for £1000.
Why do they insist on charging for new valves when they leave the TPMS valves in place !!
Still £7 in a £1000 doesn't really matter.

Interestingly, the guy who I know has been at the tyre fitters for 30 years, said, NSF outer wear is common on RR and most 4 X 4s. Being honest he said he didn't really know why ?

Roundabout wear is something he said may be the cause.

Stan you have only had the RR a few months and you have to drive it fast to get the outer edge rounderbout wear Whistle

Continental Cross Contact Tyres are the worst (Awful) and Pirelli Scorpian the best as far as outer edge wear is concerned Thumbs Up

Yes Stan of course but this type of wear ONLY occurs where the driver has put extra load on the outer edge of tyre due to cornering too fast. I don't think you do this so you would not see this wear.

The combination of Heavy Range Rover and Soft Compound on the Contis means excessive wear on the outer part of the tyre if driven aggressively. Especially around roundabouts etc.

I see it on about 60% of all Range Rovers I buy with Cross Contacts on.

You said: "theres no reason why the tyre should wear ..."

Well fact is there is I see the evidence all the time.... Smile
