United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Java Black
To "tint", or not to "tint" that is the

Question Question Question
Hi all, been reading the board for a few weeks now and just got a FFRR. Its Java so very tempted to tint the windows, i know some will say "yeah go for it" and others see it as a definite no-no.

However, like to know what those that tint think, which shade, degree etc, etc. Any pictures?

Are factory options of privacy glass sprayed glass or the same as you get with an aftermarket tint e.g. stuck on film?

I do like the tint, no sure to what degree though, deffo do not like the clear fronts, makes it like a bit naff and i'm thinking of doing those to just a tad over legal (who will ever know or be bothered) and then graduate it backwards, what does anyone think. Not going total black though, jus something nice and comfortable.

Know some do this and never have any trouble about it and still seems fairly widespread when looking around. Probably a similar situation to "illegal" plates. My brother had extremely tinted windows all round, well over the legal limit for the front sides and never had any trouble with police, MoT's etc.

Any thoughts?

Probably got a few more questions on my new beast but we'll leave it with this one for now.

Cheers!! If its not broke now it soon will !!!

Being Java black I'd tint. Suits some colours more.

If you want to do all side windows I'd do just legal on the fronts and keep it about the same all round. Why take the chance breaking the law over such a silly thing?
Saw one of the cop shows once when a WAG type in a Sport got pulled by the police and they wouldn't let her keep driving unless she took off the tints. So she got on the phone to the 'old man'. Do you want that? Laughing

I think the standard tints are coloured glass, but a good aftermarket tint looks just as good in my opinion.

In my opinion, if you tint, you must go all the way. Meaning all the windows except the front.

I think the ones tinted just behind the B pillar look like a delivery truck, wereas the full tint is more ''drug dealer'' Very Happy

Definately tint the windows.

I always think the RR doesnt look half as nice without them.

Mine are factory and are very dark in the rear (NOT limo tint) and legal tinted fronts.

If your getting it done the fronts need some tint too tbh. TDV8 HST Sport **Current**

I am not keen on Tints, it would just look ike any other black RR - but if you must I would avoid the dark limo tints these just make the car imho look old. I prefer the clean fresh look of untinted windows, but can appreciate the reasons behind wanting them.

You will find that the Standard RR tint is almost on the limit for the front windows.

Tint, I know the retro tint is not as good as the factory tint, and there are some here who may frown, but I have had mine done, and if you look in my gallery you can see before in the showroom, and after on the moors at midnight, see what you think No body told me there would be days like these

Hi Sportex, looks nice, even at midnight.

What shade and % density did you go for, did you consider doing the fronts to any degree?

What sort of price does "aftermarket tinting cost" and what sort quality job do you get with aftermarket tints

Cheers If its not broke now it soon will !!!

I have Silver with no tints but would have tints all the around just dont want agro from the boys in blue. ( I am not a fan of no tints on the front personally so would rather go without).

I wouldnt go too dark though as looks too gangster IMHO. Personally i would choose the light tint
