Transfer Box Oil Change

Hi,

Going to change the oil in the Transfer Box. For the 4.2SC, the Workshop Manual says 1.5L required and that it should be:
Transfer Case Fluid Shell TF0753.

Have only seen this advertised online with Rimmer Bros. Is it not easy to come by and likely only available either main dealer purchase or online with Rimmer Bros?

Thanks.

Not bothered about the price Joker (think Rimmer Bros quote about £24 incl VAT/ 1 Litre so fair enough). I struggled to find other seller's when googling this oil. Read on other forums that this particular oil isn't that easy to come by and that you can pretty much only buy it at main dealers. No main dealer that near to us.

Just wanted to do the job today and hoped it was maybe on mainstream sale so I could pop out, buy some and get on with it. That rules out raiding your shelf Craig/ thanks though Laughing

You need new washer seals for the drain and filler plugs anyway so perhaps a bit of patience will be a virtue! Thumbs Up

Ordered by means of a 2 minute phone call to Dan at Duckworths LR this morning.

Supply your chassis number, know you're getting the correct oil for your car and that it will be promptly delivered. 2 litres ordered, new drain and fill plugs (just in case) and 2 new washer seals.

Great service off Dan/ Duckworths as ever Thumbs Up

Changed this oil myself the other week by means of following the LR workshop manual and by using LR approved materials bought from Duckworths LR, including new drain and filler plugs and the copper seals (noted the date and vehicle mileage on the Duckworths LR invoice for the oil).

1.3L drained out. The LR workshop manual says 1.5L is the capacity.

The drained transfer box oil was a very dirty, dark coloured oil as opposed to the lighter golden brown oil that I put back in. Again, not a drop spilled during the process and no subsequent leakage.

Access to do this straightforward and worthwhile job gained from underneath the passenger side of the car.

Is a "special oil" Ryan that's why it's difficult to get hold of and tends to only be available from MD. have had mine done a couple of times as a result of having the transfer case split and re sealed to cure the leak which was caused by the high low switch. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
