If you're worried about the turbo-munch, couldn't you just have the turbo serviced and any worn parts replaced before there's a problem?

i suppose that is an option but would not be the most straight forward thing to just pop out and run down to the local turbo man. There are folks who refurbish them, and I would imagine it is possible to remove the seals and such like. But i wouldn't imagine it's a cheap process what with the labour to remove them! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Very very slightly Off Topic but relevant to the debate on the future of diesel in general......

Paris mayor wants to ban diesel cars by 2020 to fight pollution

I also understand there is a seperate oil drain for one of the turbos that can get missed.

What is this? Where is it?

Not specifically an oil drain from the turbo, but there are 2 sump plugs on the engine to drain not just one, and the turbo oil pipe ends up at the plug which gets missed, so it can get gunged up with cruddy oil. I think this is what mjd was referring to. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Anyone have a diagram of the working and reason for the second drain plug?

Gents

Hope the OP doesn't mind me flagging up that there is now a topic on the Technical forum called "why TDV8 turbos fail" where I am trying to gather as much information about said issue (what goes wrong, why it goes wrong and what can be done about it). I'm hoping this can be the definitive source of information on the subject so if you have important information (eg: second sump plug story) then please post it up there. Cheers, RRG

Can i make a quick suggestion Rangie47?

The interior pics on that car i would say are lacking sir! To save you a wasted, huge round trip! Ask the dealer to e-mail you some detailed pics of the interior and especially the front seats... I suspect at that milage and in that colour they could be very tired! As the seller has listed some clever UN-revealing pics which raises my suspicions Whistle

If my suspicions are incorrect the seller I'm sure will oblige Thumbs Up

When I just bought my 2007 TDV8 I negotiated that the Turbo Hoses would be relaced as a preventative measurement before delivery following having read several members had issues with these without notice. Hopefully this will at least prevent that from happening the coming years. Mike.
