General Grabber Tyres

Any views on Grabber tyres?

I have just bought a 2011 AB from a main dealer. They fitted the Grabbers as part of their commitment to LR approved but there is a whining noise at the front of the car from 30mph and it gets worse the faster I go. I haven't had it checked out by my local dealer yet, but I've done a bit of research and it looks as though this is a problem with the tyre rather than bearings or other mechanical issues.

I really don't want to have to pay out for a new set of a well known brand straight away, but is this an issue for other owners?

GG AT hum - quite like it in fact - if you have a whine then that sounds like drive train. If it is the tyres just she'll out replace them and sell them on the forum or ebay 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

I have these on mine, when I first had the car, I was convinced that a wheel bearing or the diff were shot, took it in to two different dealers, and they found nothing.
I then put my summer wheels on, fitted with Pirelli scorpions, and the noise totally disappeared.

I just wondered if you have any recommendations for the quietest tyres.

Cooper LTZ's are by far the quietest of the off road oriented tyres sir...

If you go that route, once fitted, leave them where they are and DO NOT rotate the wheels on the car or they will get MUCH LOUDER!!!

As fitted to my bobtail below Thumbs Up

The General AT's do quieten down after around 1k miles - they take at least that to bed in. Plus they are the only speed rated AT for the RR. 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

Having run both the General Grabber AT and Cooper LTZ (all be it on different cars) they both quieten down with a few miles on them and to be honest there is not a great deal of difference but a well bedded in set of Coopers just has it . 2008 MY Supercharged

I'm driving to Spain soon so hopefully they will be easier on the ears on the way home! If not, they're coming off ;@)

Just a strange choice of tyre to be put on by a LR dealer - they must have had a job lot. 2005 L322 Vogue Gold gone

Hi,

You say they were fitted by a Land Rover dealer but surely they are the wrong size of tyre for the wheel. My 20 inch rims are 255/50/20 which are quite different to 275/45/20. I know they will fit the wheel but I didn't think Land Rover ever sold the L322 model with that size of tyre. Knowing how particular dealers can be with modified cars if there is a warranty claim I am quite surprised they fitted that size of tyre.

Paul
