my reputable Main Agent says minimum every 12 months or sooner if the car tells you - depending on how she is driven or miles, i.e. do loads of miles or drive flat out and it will be sooner 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

If you are the type of owner who cannot (or can't be bothered) to check all the fluids on a regular basis and would rather someone else worry about that then that's your call I guess.

I myself prefer to know exactly what my car is 'telling' me, if the oil is disappearing or leaking, it needs attention, if something doesn't sound or feel right, it needs attention, if it's not driving correctly, it needs attention, but I'm not going to take it to the garage for a 12 month service if it doesn't need it.

I know you are in the business of attracting customers Craig and I don't doubt your integrity, but we will have to disagree on this. Discovery 4 HSE

This is a massive over simplification of the point raised here. I work in IT and you don't wait for the technology to tell you that there is a issue and you need to fix it (i.e. reactive). You proactively identify potential issues and deal with them before they occur.

By getting the car serviced annually by a qualified and well respected dealer you should have the assurance that they will tell you about potential failure points and then you can make an informed decision as to whether you want to invest in getting them fixed. Checks of fluids, tyre pressures etc should be a part of any owners routine.

Following some really useful comments on here and the web, the advice is do not rely upon the car to tell you when a service is due, but get it serviced annually. SDV8 AB MY 2019

Interesting reading!, new to me, my 2007 vse, full service history, and serviced only 5K miles ago! I'm a chef and my mechanical knowledge is limited but I still like to know where I am, with my car! I've booked into the garage just to have an oil and filter change!
Would like to think that I'll have this car for a couple of years before I go for the 4.4. I'll only cover 6-7K a year which puts my service 15-16 months away! 2014 vogue se

Having said all I've said it matters not to me anyway, as I do enough miles that my car tells me it needs a service on average every 8 months. Big Cry Discovery 4 HSE

I do about 6000 miles per year in mine but the service required message comes up every 12 months so its obviously programmed for time as well as milage and driving style

Mine is the TFT dash by the way.

This is interesting to me, mine always says "Service Required" even when I got it, after it had just been serviced by a main dealer. Is there a known problem - IDTool can't sort it but it will be due a 12 month service in July. I guess I'll just have to wait.

Had this on my 2006 S/C Geoff. The garage OBD tool wouldn't reset it and in the end that had to re-boot the car. Also a colleague of mine has an Ejoke and he had to take it back twice after the service required message popped up. Rolling Eyes SDV8 AB MY 2019

In the olden days we didn't have service indicators, and TBH, we didn't need them as we all knew it was 12,000 miles per service.

These days, even if your SLI doesn't work you can compute the average mileage between services your car has had and just use that as a guide. In my experience of four Range Rovers on the trot, 2 petrol, 2 diesel, they seem to get to about 14,000 maximum before needing a service.

LR also give you a 'grace' mileage of 1,500 miles after the SLI has kicked in and gone to zero (I was told by a Dealer). After that and they might argue about warranty voiding (if you have it) Discovery 4 HSE
