Fox you have my sympathy - really frustrating and it sounds like the dealers messed it up - as you say once they have sent the paperwork off you are goosed.

Having done many such transfers, the easiest way I have learned from experience would be to have put both private plates on retention.

An age related plate (or the original plate would then have been allocated), DVLA can do this while you wait. A replacement MOT would be issued with a tax disc. You can then drive the vehicles away.

Then, once the retention certificates arrive in the post, pop down to your local DVLA office and the transfer can be done there and then.

Sounds complicated but its not - its usually dick head dealers who want your money but can't be bothered earning it.

sorry, you have my sympathy - things like this really irritate me - lazy Censored Thumbs Up

I thought your TD6 was a great buy for someone.

A lot of car for the money.

Today, I was behind a mint 2003 which the owner obviously cherished. Probally worth the same as a newish Mondeo but he felt the Dogs Censored Looked out for the forum sticker but no joy. He sat there feeling special and spotted me and gave me the reassured nod of approval. Thumbs Up

Tell me about it. I'm a bit gutted i was too late to have it.!!

DOH!!!!!

I take it back what i said about it being easy.

Went to renew my tax disc online and i cant do it now as DVLA still havent sent my V5. I should have extended it at the time with the new plates.

Spoke to lady who said i need to either remove the car from the road while i await the V5 or visit the DVLA centre and they can do it there. Great news as i dont have my Car Ins Doc as left at home (dont usually need it for online renewals!!!)so now have to drive 1 hour home to then get paperwork and go to DVLA and spend a an hour there then drive to work again. I said why didnt they tell me of this and she said it is in the small print. Censored Great!!!! My own fault for not getting them to spell it out to me at the time as i dont transfer plates on and off vehicles everyday as not my job so i shouldnt be expected to full understand the system.

Anyway rant over so now getting car keys and coat Whistle
