car sold .should i cancel direct debit tax ?

i have just sold my car yesterday and i was paying the road tax monthly direct debit. I have read online that when you send back the logbook to change the keepers details they then stop the payments. The payment comes out at the start of each month but the logbook has just been sent away yesterday so don't now if they will get it in time and wondering if i should just cancel the direct debit before they just take the money then i have to chase them for it ? Range Rover Vogue 2006 4.4 AJV8 | Buckingham Blue | Parchment Leather | Supercharged Grill+Side Vents | CA02 HEY ( NOT 02 PLATE )

Stop the payments now... Cancel the direct debit yourself tonight. Previously..
Vogue SE TD6
