Cigar Lighters

I would like to change the front and rear cigar lighters (not the accessory sockets) to ignition switched as they get used for ancillary equipment and it would be more convenient to have them isolated when the ignition is off.

I have looked at the circuit diagrams and it appears that both the cigar lighters and the ancillary sockets go to the same fuse in the rear fusebox (fuse 1 20amp?). An additional complication seems to be that the colour coding is the same for all four outlets. That could obviously be overcome by removing in turn.

I am not quite clear if there is a spare fuse which could be used and wonder if anyone has any pointers.

Thanks in advance. John

this came up a while back john and i suggested running feed wires from an ignition live socket but i'm sure someone came up with a better idea of changing the permanent live socket to an ignition live but i cant remember how.. ... - .- -.

Nice one, Stan. Thumbs Up Had a look and the relay is not there and there is a bridge in situ. Will look to acquire a relay (R132) which should, hopefully, do the trick. Need to source one. John

Hi Weegie,

I also want this for my 02 l322, and have been looking into it for a while. Yet haven't found a simple solution. Where did you found out about the relay (R132)?
Please let me now if you have more information, really want this modification bad.... Bow down 2002 L322 V8

Thanks... You seem to have a slightly different set-up than mine... No bridge nor a relay for me... yet still my sockets are all live despite the engine turned off... Confused You also have lots more of fuses....

Sorry photo is a bit hard to see... Dark outside... Will take better photo tomorrow... 2002 L322 V8

Not sure but if you look at page 167 onwards on the above link it may give you a clue. It could well be that it is connected elsewhere than the rear fuse box.

What I find a little strange, going on my understanding, is that you are getting power to the sockets without either a relay or a bridge? But I might have it all wrong.

Mine is a MY2005 with touch screen etc so that may account for the additional fuses. John

Yeah already looked at page 167 and onwards. But it's a bit abracadabra to me.

Strange indeed, you would say that they are powered without a bridge or relay. Can I just plugin another relay to test what it does, or would that be a bad idea? 2002 L322 V8

Was just going to search for this very issue when i see it top of forum.

I too would like my in car sockets to be ignition switched but they all remain live. 2002 4.4 vogue.

pietertje, my fusebox looks like yours, but with one extra relay to the top left of the group. Its yellow.

Guess we have some digging about to do.....

Just looked at that link to wiring diagrams.

So, we have two cigar lighters and two aux sockets.

The front cigar (next to gear knob), rear cigar (facing rear seats) and the aux socket in cubby box are all fed 12v permanent via fuse 1 in rear box.

The boot/trunk aux socket is also permament live, fed from fuse 7.

This all lines up with my car, if i remove fuse 1 they all die bar the one in the trunk.

So, i guess we need to find a way to feed an igntion switch wire into back of fuse 1 rather than permanent? But not sure if its quite as easy as that given it also runs through fuse in front fuse box?

Could you wire an inline voltage sensitive relay to kill the feed when the engine is off. 2010 - Range Rover VSE 3.6 TDV8

Accordng to page 17, a switched relay should control in car sockets.....
