Heathrow is globally recognised, so ideas of converting or using existing locations will not work. It's also recognised as a key global hub for many airlines. Yes KLM and Luft use their own Dutch and German bases but many other larger fleets use heathrow. I fly from Manchester mainly but part of my job means I am now looking for Mumbai flights....none local anymore unless I go Man-Dub and change. So Heathrow needs the expansion as it remains the spotlight Airport in the UK. Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

The thing is, it's all rhetoric.

Heathrow, Gatwick or Boris Island WILL NOT HAPPEN!

No government has the balls and long-term hold to make it work. Modern governments are so ultra-sensitive to criticism and fear of offending people with outright moves such as this that they'll 'talk the talk' but will not 'walk the walk'.

It's the same with other contentious (but glaringly obvious) development plans, such as the often-mooted A303 tunnel by Stonehenge. What an utter mess that is!! It's laughable how the need for improving traffic flow is so desperate but no one is prepared to stick their neck out (or another part of their weedy anatomy) to make it happen.

Like Heathrow, we'll all be long gone and it'll still be a regular topic of political discussion and I don't see anything happening in the near, middle or far-off future to change it, more's the pity. Si. <This is my name.

I eat rat poison.

A man ain't truly been insulted until he stands buck naked in front of a woman and she didn't even notice. Or care.

Heathrow is the logical choice but transport links to it are dire. How is it possible to have something as large and busy as Heathrow with one slow tube extension line servicing it? In fact, just about all UK airports involve taking the car, taxi or coach. Where are the decent train links or even affordable shuttle flights from the rest of the UK?

Wherever possible I avoid using Heathrow as it's a PITA to get to from the Midlands. Even to do the lowly 18 miles to Birmingham means a taxi, 2 trains and a large walk from the International station through to the terminal. And they're all the same! East Mids? Car. Manchester. Car. Luton. Car. Gatwick, well useful for those who live in Kent I suppose. Stanstead is about the easiest by train.

I don't think it's so much about where to put the runway, more a case of putting in a decent rail hub with direct and fast links to the other main airports and large cities to help the onward trip go a bit better. The roads are already so congested that it takes forever to get in or out of an airport unless you choose a night flight.

I agree with the links to the airports. Up here we are seeing increased tram links but nothing towards cheshire so for me it's a car journey or a £40 taxi ride. I can get a local train into M'cr city centre then another train out to the airport but again it's not a direct resolve. Car parks at M'cr are not as expensive as heathrow ! Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

Re: Northolt.

A good solution would be 2 additional runways at LHR and a second one at LGW. Also give Boris the green light for his floating runway in the Thames. Fix the problem for a couple of generations. But no-one will have the balls to do it. 2019 Range Rover P400e

I used to fly regularly from Heathrow, I live near Hemel Hempstead and so the 35 mile journey to the airport was a breeze. T5/BA is my top choice as access is so easy. I'd support expansion as we will start to lose out as a Euro hub to the likes of Schipol. I am now moving to Yorkshire and am travelling from Leeds/Bradford and more often than not my connection are via Amsterdam (for other Euro destinations), but I can still get 3 flights a day to Heathrow for long haul if I need to, but all intra Europe flights seem better served by klm/Schipol.

I agree with it not because it'll affect my travel plans but because it is well located to support the economy.

I try and avoid T5 as much as possible. I don't think I've ever been on an on time flight out of there.

Irrespective of how many runways they have, bad weather, French ATC strikes, computer issues at NATS etc etc, will only be worse when there are more flights to contend with, should the extra runway get the go ahead. Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue
