Diesel injector cleaner (again)

Guys

Sorry, I know it's been reapeated but I Have searched, but did we ever get to the bottom of finding a decent injector cleaner or if it all a myth?

After my recent issues I think it's gotta be worth throwing something in (plus the fact of utilising a full tank)
I see a few recommendations redex etc, but did we ever agree on "the one to use"?

Cheers

Ive used red ex in the past, I'm sure some people say that it can cause more problems as it shifts dirt around.

In any event, i don't think it will kill the car.

Cheers Steve.
I normally throw a redex in when asda has it reduced Rolling Eyes

But after running antifreeze through the injectors I reckon it's gotta be worth running a can of the best I can through it.

BG244 seems to be recommended, I have used reddex in he past and it made no noticeable difference👍 There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I recently run a can of diesel purge through the engine and am happy with the results. The engine was running fine before so I cant claim any miracle improvements however the tick over is quieter now and fuel economy has improved by a little. There are a few confusing videos on how to use it with various hoses but after asking advise I chose to fill a new fuel filter with the purge and fit that before going through the running procedure. The can fills the new fuel filter with a small amount left over which I just added to the fuel tank when finished. It makes the process easy.

I used BG44 on the SC and thought it probably did some good.

I'm going to try the diesel variant now. It can be bought for £20 a can from a local Kwik Fit.

This thread on BG got a decent number if views and responses:

I found it to be a waste of money but then again I found the more expensive fuels a waste of money. However there are plenty on here who claim to have had different experiences. I found that neither additives or fuels made any difference, however the car definitely ran better after a good wash and wax. Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Geoff

Two-stroke oil. Bit of a debate, but I've found it beneficial. Thumbs Up

(200:1 approx ratio. Must be JASO FB spec or better, min FC spec for those with DPFs. Mustn't be fully synthetic - Semi, I believe, is fine but I prefer mineral. Castrol Actevo 2T fits the bill nicely. Wink ) Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

I've just bought a tin of that BG stuff. Only had the car a few weeks but the previous owner chucked a can in every couple of months and always ran the car on the super diesel. So, I thought I'd carry on his good work and she runs brilliantly. (Oh my, why did I say that, what's going to happen now)

used redex quite regularly since the new year - not particularly convinced it's worth it. Did put some in the wives 645 and she says it did make a difference. I did notice that on the BMW on tick over there was quite a lot of smoke coming from both exhausts. mentioned this to my indie. when I told him I used Redex his first question was 'you haven't put that in the RR have you?!!'.

Naturally I confessed and he said never to do it again. His experience is the cleaning process can do more harm that the presence of the natural deposits. He recommended a better grade fuel rather than an additive treatment. He reckons the smoke was the deposits burning off. The BM smoked for about a week - I must admit I was starting to worry.

I'm gonna give these miracle liquids a wide birth from now on. Shocked 405 AB exec seats Baltic and Cirrus

Hmmm cheers guys.
Gives me something to think about. Weren't hopeing for any miracle cures as car running well, just knowing that the injectors have had a dose of antifreeze run through them, was kinda feeling the guilt to put something through them!!

Comma diesel magic is quite good. The wynns "diesel cleanup" one that you put directly into the diesel filter is quite good too.

It depends how dirty your engine is to start with, obviously if it's pretty clean putting a cleaner in it will have little effect. If it's been run on crap fuel all it's life and never been used on a decent run, then you'll probably see more difference.

I've never seen any benefit from the ones where you add 10ml per 10litres of fuel, or Redex. but the one shot affairs where you tip the whole lot in and drive it i've had good results on various cars. Where i've had hesitation, misfires and stalling problems, that have cured them selves after a dose of injection cleaner.

I usually chuck a bottle of it in the tank when i buy a new car. Most decent quality fuels (not just the super fuels) have similar detergents in them anyway, so if a car has been run on decent fuel, it shouldn't need it, but hell it's only a fiver on the cost of the service.
