after contact 12v & inside 12v

Hi There, I have 2 things I want to do inside my range.

Live after + circa front grille
I'm going to stick a gps tracker there and would need it to be alimented when the car is on. Can I use the temp sensor cables? If not, what's the next best option. I would maybe consider a constant 12V but I have to figure out what would be the battery drain.

12V plug next to the instruments
On thing I regret from my previous TD6s is that the cigar lighter has moved further in the center dash, forcing me to run a cable right in the middle of the gear sticks and instruments.
Ideally, I would stick au USB plug of this kind but I'm open to other's experiences.

For the second one - inside the car - I would get a Piggy Back fuse and run a cable from a switched live connection in the fusebox behind the glovebox.

I would not put any new holes in the car - I would use the item you have linked to, but hide it & just run the USB cable to where you need it.

I wouldn't try connecting your tracker to the outside air temperature sensor wiring, this is fed from the ac ECU and you may well upset the ECU.
You can connect to the headlight wiring as stan indicates above or into the E box as per my fifth post on page 5 of the link below.
Although this specifically applies to earlier cars I suspect the set up may be the same or very similar to later cars.

thanks for the swift answers
@alistair got you but next question is how complex it is to run the cable to say the first cup holder.
@stan, @nicedayforit yes but then only has power when lights are on?

btw, what accessory do you use to stick your phone (iPhone 6 in my case)? 2008 TDV8 VOGUE - Buckingham Blue on Sand

Am i reading this right? You want a live whilst the vehicle is running? IE an ignition live? If so, the vanity mirror lights (illuminated sun visor mirror lights) are an ignition supplied 12v obviously at the top of the windscreen Thumbs Up

Powerful posted some useful videos here that may help with taking pieces out of the dash & running cables.

@cam-tech-craig yes, but the courtesy mirror is a high point to hook from
@alistair, the videos seem a bit old reg. console change. What I'd like is to "play" with the center console where the speed gear is located (possibly fitting a plug in the place of a cup holder).

For the GPS tracker I guess that things have changed on the TDV8 or I'm not looking at the right place

Why do you want a tracker to have a switched live, doesn't it need to be live all the time, mines got a battery backup but I'd still want it live all the time in case it's a while before you notice the car has been nicked...and personally I'd put it inside the car where it will have a kinder life and not be exposed to the elements....

There is a great place I found for mine, PM me and I'll tell you where it is.... Pete

@haylands after contact not to drain the battery but if the drain is minimal, then I'd be happy to put it on an always live wire.
As to putting it inside the car, I'm afraid that it doesn't get a proper gps signal, no?
Sanding you a pm anyway for that secret place Wink 2008 TDV8 VOGUE - Buckingham Blue on Sand

after inspecting the characteristics, I guess you're right in saying it should be in a dry place.
Remains the question of how much drain a cigar lighter + USB cable will put on the battery.
Can it remain parked 2 weeks & still have no issue to start? 2008 TDV8 VOGUE - Buckingham Blue on Sand

Inside the car should be no worse than in the engine bay - it's still surrounded by metal for a GPS signal....

The lighter & cable use no power - unless there is some illumination on it - it's whats plugged into the other end that matters Whistle
