My first collision

I had my first collision yesterday Big Cry

Car pulled out right in front of me, I swerved, but he got me anyway - will be a new light, bumper & wing - probably a wheel too as that took some scuffing. Big Cry

No doubt my premiums will go up as a result Censored

That's a sore one, pity about the recording, let the battle commence with insurers, never pleasant.

Big Cry always a shame to see a car looking injured! As above, I hope you get it sorted and the person owns up.... However as is so often the case these days, the person pulling out will tend to say you hit them and as the front of your car is damaged, they tend to believe them Evil or Very Mad Now: BMW 640d M Sport, Alpine White

It gets worse - I noticed some black oil underneath - looks like engine oil - there seems to be some sort of cooler behind the bumper that's got bent - I've driven around 100 miles & the level is still showing as full, so hopefully the 750 miles home will be OK - I'm south of Bordeaux at the moment.

The fact that the bump was in France doesn't help my chances of a favourable insurance outcome Sad

Here's the other guy -

Not wishing to spoil your trip and bearing in mind I know absolutely nothing about 405's I'd be inclined to find out where that "oil" is coming from before you embark on your 750mile journey home. It could be anything and whilst it may not appear much at the moment by the time everything is fully up to temperature it's not inconceivable that that fluid leak could empty whatever is supposed to be full of fluid on a long drive. ^^100% get under there with a torch! Find the leak and make sure it can't get any worse, a bent oil cooler doesn't sound too healthy, if its gone on a seam it he hole could get bigger once up to pressure and temp. Alternatively call your insurer and get them to trailer the car home and provide you with a suitable alternative! Last thing you want to do is spank the engine when the oil drains out.

Good god I sound like a merchant of doom! Big Cry There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I know you're right Embarassed I called Landcover Assist this afternoon - all they could do was recover it to a main dealer and give me a hire car for 2 days - so I need to speak to my insurance again before I do anything.

I'll have a proper crawl underneath tomorrow - I had a look through the bumper vents today - it looks hard to get to - you can see nothing from the top and can see a bit where the wheel arch liner has come away from the wing.

I'm fairly certain it's going to end up 50/50 - the facts aren't really in dispute - it was in a car park & the road markings are ambiguous to say the least. I was on the main thoroughfare which is a straight line between the entrance & the exit and runs straight through the middle of the car park. He was on one of the side runs & was heading straight across - he was moving reasonably quickly as he thought it was a straight run of parked cars and didn't realise the main route went straight through the middle.

I'm just glad it's only bent metal and no-one was hurt

It's a system in France (Europe) where, broadly speaking, you both complete a form which sets out what happened. If you both agre you both sign it. If you don't agree you register that on the constat

It is a way of streamlining any insurance claims particularly where there is no dispute over what happened.
