Nutty prices - swollen nuts

Well, following on from my quest to eradicate squealing from the front wheels:
http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic26089.html

Today I removed the front passenger wheel which has seemed to be the main culprit. I could see nothing obvious like a trapped stone or visibly knackered components and whilst awaiting a recall from a mechanic who will hopefully do some brake stripping, cleaning and greasing, I decided to properly clean the visible parts (disc face, hub, caliper, fully cleaned the insides of the removed alloy etc).

And so, when putting the wheel back on, I found that one of the nuts (visibly in very good condition) did not want to go back on and it took a good 30 minutes before I could find a technique to re-thread it without forcing it, which got me wondering/ hoping, could that be the culprit for the wheel squeal?

Probably not but the main thing is no damage has been caused, although someone could easily (maybe has in the past) been tempted to force it back on which could cause all sorts of problems.

Wheels are the original facelift 4.2 SC 9 spoke wheels. Can the nuts be bought individually does anyone know as it's the only one that doesn't like going on?

Thanks

Thumbs Up

That's nuts!

Eh, just went to order some nuts and when looking back at having bought some from Powerful UK in June 2014 for £3.49 each, to buy single nuts now are listing at £9 each Shocked

Should you find said squeak please advise as yours sounds identical to mine even to the location and it's the worst sort, intermittent.

Brakes stripped and cleaned, new genuine Brembo pads fitted, locking wheel nut ( all binned and replaced with new plain nuts) yet found nothing.

When it does squeak it can get loud and the lightest brake pressure stops it so feel it has to be that area but can't find anything. Many thanks
Paul

Apologies Paul, I actually resurrected this thread on the subject of swollen nuts. We no longer have the RR that the squeak related to and don't want to dishearten but the overwhelming feeling from professionals at the time was that the squeak was connected to the front brake pads I had fitted which were not LR but Brembo pads (in fairness the squeak wasn't there with the previous LR pads).

Thumbs Up

Ah ok thanks anyway.

Any other interested parties, I changed the pads as thought there may be marked etc but with the new Brembo pads and a full brake service there was no change.

Then I was heard to shout aaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrggggggggghhhhhhh followed by some fluent French 😃 Many thanks
Paul

I was offered std or genuine Brembo and have 100% trust that that's what I received.
Even if there just Brembo branded I don't care as if there good enough to put there name to them then that's good enough for me. Many thanks
Paul

It seems to be a source of debate. Can you or can you not get 'Brembo' pads.
