United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Supercharged 4.2 SC V8 Cairns Blue

This may / may not be related. I had an Audi A5 rental car for a couple of days this week. When I was filling it with Diesel last night at the local garage (it was raining heavily and a bit windy) it took ages to fill, pump kept clicking off and very slow to fill.

When I finally filled it and went to pay, I mentioned this to the attendant and he said that it was the 'rain guard' on the pump that was the problem. I had never heard of this before so don't know if it is true or not, but it would have explained it as it was the first pump and exposed to the wind and rain.

Thanks all. So I used the aforementioned tool and it worked a treat however, it promoted another question....... I had a remaining range of circa 60 miles and yet I could only squeeze in £69 to fill her???? The gauge is showing full and a range of 436 however i thought these big girls would take something like 96 litres?
I should add I'm filling her in the conventional way, rather than 'inverting' (always reminds me of Top Gun that word) the pump head.
Thanks again, great website, reminds me of when I had a Benelli.

Keep an eye on it, the senders can start sending erroneous readings to the cluster so registers the wrong amount of fuel it sounds like it could be under reading the amount of fuel in the tank. You are right in that full should be about 97L so if you have only managed to fit 60L into the tank there would have been about 37L left in! Which should give a range of about 120-140 miles. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

That's weird as I can never get near the amount of fuel my old td6 took to fill up , is there anything that can be done to make them read the level better ?

i noticed that mine clicked off filling at 60L last time I filled up but I persisted and got another 20L in.

I had problems with the senders on my 3.6, where the gauge would just have a mind of its own. New senders sorted it. Not cheap to do though. It's not a thing you can calibrate either. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Looks like you have an 11 plate bought recently?
Was it a LR dealer?
If yes, you should have warranty with it so that would cover it, as suggested I had a sender issue & all done under warranty.
If an independent you should still have a warranty that would be worth looking into.

Good luck,

Sender in my 2004 4.4

The problem seems to be with all Range Rovers. Mine fills up but only reads just under3/4 but when it reaches toward empty it really is nearly empty, once when I filled the needle went to the full mark and I thought it had fixed itself but next time it was back to just under the 3/4.
As long as the low level remains accurate I reckon I will just leave it alone, who knows it may decide to fix itself again Thud

It's like pouring a pint, the faster you go the more it froths up...... end result a tank half full of foam..... and by the time you've paid for it..... 3/4 full tank of fuel. The only way you'll get a full tank is to fill it slowly, and it's got more than 1/2 a tank to start with, filling from empty you don't stand a chance, unless it's one of those really really slow pumps.... that..... take....... Mine varies. For instance yesterday filled up with nozzle at full delivery and inserted right way up. Embarassed On other occasions I have had to invert the nozzle to get a reasonable delivery speed.

I believe that it can depend on the maintenance of the pump. With repeated use the tip of the nozzle can be distorted which causes turbulence resulting in automatic switch off as it appears that the tank is full.

May not always be the cause but one of the reasons IMO. John

The L322 has a tortured part to the tank from the filler, it's a fact, why did they fit that restriction in the top to stop you using commercial fuel pumps............ cos they knew that the tank wouldn't handle the high flow and spit it all out.

The forecourt pumps have an adjustable delivery rate, so not all pumps are the same.... the only thing that's more annoying that a fast pump, is one that doesn't have the pin in the handle that allows you to lock it in a low or high flow position........ But even that would be useless to us as the blood nozzle wont fit in the filler so you have to hold it Evil or Very Mad

So the car is flawed Shocked Shocked Live with it and take a few more minutes to fill it up slowly..... you'll get a lot further down the road Wink Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Could have done with this thread on Saturday.

The misfuel device had been triggered on our new to us TDv8. Still not great... never had a problem with the td6
