What is the weight of my car

Anyone know the exact weight of a MY2010? That is - have you had it on a weighbridge?

I had it up on a mates two pillar post yesterday and he has a load plate that says max weight 2500 Kg.

1 litre of Diesel is about .85kg, So you can take about 42kg off the kerb weight for half a tank.

Its still too heavy for the ramp.

Want to ask another question, cos it will still be too heavy?!

Well it might not be, i mean his next question could be "How heavy is it if i remove all fuel, seats, doors and tailgates?" Laughing

You could always jack it up with the ramp in place and remove all 4 wheels and spare, hazzard a guess at 20kg each, thats 120kg,remove jack, parcel shelf[weighs a tonne] and wheel cover in boot, floormats, any clutter, towbar !!

Had mine checked, but this was with passengers and luggage, 3100 kg! http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic28510-114.html

A 2500 kg hoist is really to push the limits, but it should be fine if empty of everything unneccesary and balanced correctly. Supporter and maintainer of EDF - Mrs Edfors' shopping cart.

I suppose it depends how old and well maintained the hoist is. If it's fairly new and the car is balanced correctly it's "probably" not going to collapse, but it'll shorten the life of the hoist if it's done on a regular basis.

On the other hand if the hoist is old, and not been serviced correctly, or if it's been over loaded a lot in the past you could have a cable snap, motor burn out, it could slip on the worm drive or the seals could fail in the ram. There's usually a safety lock on them to stop the car dropping but then the car is stuck 6ft up in the air.

As it stands though the car is too heavy and you're overloading the hoist, so who can predict what might happen.

Sounds like the manual is about accurate going by what you've just said. The Kerb weight in the manual is just an empty car with a full tank of fuel. It doesn't include the driver or any of the random clutter you or I fill our cars with.

As you say your car had you and the usual junk in it when you weighed it.

One of the things that is often suggested by motoring organisations as a fuel saving tip is to give your car a good clear out of things you don't need. That perhaps gives you an idea of the amount of weight all that junk adds up to.

True, but you need to add back in all the spare tools, towrope, batteries etc, that the typical full fat owner needs to carry in order to deal with the day to day mechanical and electrical challenges we all face.

That'll take the kerb weight up to 4,200Kg Whistle
