Failed in searching so....

Mine (2008 tdv8) has a 7 pin and wish to upgrade to the 13 pin and so ask if anybody can point me in the right direction ideally to a plug and play position.

As long as the sensors cease I'm not to concerned with all the bits and bobs a dealer codes in as I'm only tugging a small bike trailer.

I changed mine from 7 pin to 13 following a fire on the socket. It's quite easy, plug and play loom, p obably the most difficult part was threading the new loom through the boot floor.

On the net I see looms, plug on one end full length of the car to the rear cubbys for about £85, is it one of those, but answering my own question I guess it has to be.
So in simple terms it's a swapper ? Many thanks

That looks like the harness. I can't find the link to the one I bought but will keep looking.

The kit should include the towing control module and the relay which go in the hand cubby hole in the boot. They are plug and play but the plug on the control module is a bit tricky as you have to slide part of it to release it rather than just unclip it. Both parts just unbolt from their mountings.

The wiring runs to the boot floor close to the tailgate across to the left hand side where it exits through a hole with a large grommet. The new kit will have a new grommet on the wire already. I had to take the trims off the boot and lower tailgate to get to the old harness which is tightly clipped in place. Once you expose this just run the new one the same way.

The grommet was quite difficult to fit but at least you know it's a good seal once in.

You may find the screws on the old tow socket have rusted in and it may be easier to undo the mounting plate and cut the wires so you work hard n them off the car. My plate was also rusty so I took the opportunity to clean it up and spray it Matt black before refitting.

There is nothing too difficult just some bits are a bit fiddly or frustrating. Some random pics below

I recently changed my electric plug holder to a posh stainless steel jobby, also the bolts in the plug the same so that pain I've already been though.

Fully understand your words so will get a good quality lead on order.

And has the advantage of being Westfalia in origin who are the Land Rover Suppliers (i.e. genuine, but no L/R stickers and no L/R silly prices ). There are a few of us on here who have used PF Jones, and I have yet to hear a bad word said about them, although I bet L/R have a few  Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

I was a cheap skate and bought a new 13pin socket, and undid all the existing socket wires of the 2x 7 pin sockets and re-wired them into a 13pin socket. Seems to work so far!

Sub £10.  V8 or else ...

You could always flog your genuine L/R wiring loom and ECU on fleabay.... who knows, you might make a profit  Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

That's a Witter tow bar, which is after market, so there is a chance that you just have a bypass relay fitted and it's been programmed to the car, not sure what will happen if you plug genuine electrics in to that, hopefully it will recognise that you've come to your seances and just work without any fuss. Or if your really lucky you've got a cheap towbar with genuine electrics and all will be well  Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!
