3.6TDV8 Brake Caliper Confusion...

At what point did the L322's come with the big 6pot Brembos? Is it only the 4.4's that came standard with these?

Assuming this is true and the Brembos are an upgrade on the 3.6.. What is the standard disc size on the front and rear?
And is it single pot calipers on the rear and 2pot on the front?

Been desperately trying to google this info but can't seem to find it. Single pot rears just don't seem enough in my mind.

Thanks

Cool, thanks guys. So worth the upgrade then. Noted.

So if the standard rears are single pot is it not worth upgrading them also? Or is the bias so front heavy it doesn't really matter?
Are the standard fronts 4pot? and do you have to get bigger discs with 6pot upgrade?

Cheers boys

6 pots only came on the 4.4 TDV8 and the 5.0 SC. What car have you got at the moment?

I disagree with Scotty, in theory they are better, but in practice there is not that much noticeable difference between the 4 pots and 6 pots in normal use, having had both the 3.6 and 4.4 they both stop fast when you stamp on the anchors. Im sure there is a difference, but you would have to get the tape out to tell what it is.

If you have the 4 pots at the moment then there is little point in upgrading to the 6 pots just for the sake of it (plus the pads are a lot pricier)

The 4 pot brembos are standard front fitment on the 3.6 and 4.2 sc as are single pot rear callipers. It doesn't have brembo rear brakes, they are TRW callipers on the back. It is the same setup as the 4.2 SC.

Even the 4.4 and 5.0 only have the six pot brembos on the front and single pots on the rear. The fronts do the majority of the braking in any case so it makes sense for the braking force to have a forward bias.

so to sum up

3.6tdv8 and 4.2sc = 4 pot brembo and single pot trw rear
4.4tdv8 and 5.0sc = 6 pot brembo and single pot rear (not sure on the make but they are different from the 3.6) There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Excellent info. Thank you very much mate.

I wonder if the need to upgrade is stronger after an increase in power...hmm..Guess we will have to see!
(The 6pot's do look nicer too lol)

Could be, bt don't forget it als limits choice of wheels. All 20" are fine but only 1 19" fits. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

To save the confusion...

Scott has 4 pot Brembo’s but........ With upgraded drilled & grooved disks so stopping will be top draw Thumbs Up

Pre 2010my cars i.e. those fitted with 4pot Brembo’s CANNOT be fitted with 6pot Brembo’s as a direct fit replacement! As the holes in the hub castings are too small! Yes you could change the castings but they are uber expensive thus making the job un-economic...

Hope that helps? Thumbs Up

I think Ash is in the exact same situation as me. Mine is a 2010MY on an 09 plate

The brakes on mine do not feel as good as my old 02 V8 and certainly no where near as good as the 4.2 56 Supercharged I drove the other day.

6 pot Callipers are more than a bit spendy though.....

I too have this issue - a 2010 3.6 with the 'stock' brakes.

I was wondering as to whether one could fit the 2005-2009 4-pot Brembos to these easily??? Regards,
