I've just got home from my last planned days shooting this season;quite breezy, overcast, great company and well shown birds. The journey home took about 90 mins and as I was driving along in serene quietness (apart from Camel on the hi-fi) I remembered what a wonderful place the RR cabin is. I think I take it for granted sometimes but tonight brought back all the reasons why I've always had a LR of some description since I passed my test many years ago.

Supremely comfortable seats, hands warming up on the wheel and 'The Snowgoose' pumping through the speakers. Range Rovers really are bloody good cars aren't they?!! Rules are made for the obedience of fools and the guidance of wise men.

I quite often go through the exact same thought process when I am on my way home from a more distant shoot, especially if its been a cold or wet day, the Range Rover just hugs you all the way home!

You would not get that feeling of contentedness from a Discovery I don't think. The RR makes you feel special. Discovery 4 HSE

The FFRR

I think you're right RRUK, all the components combine into a 2.7 ton gentleman's club that gives anyone inside the 'feelgood factor'. I drive lots of miles each year and yet I still look forward to long journeys in it.

Out of interest, if you had to pick fault with the RR, what would it be? Rules are made for the obedience of fools and the guidance of wise men.

youve all hit the nail on the head with how good the FFRR really is as for my only gripe with the FFRR on mine is it needs a supercharged petrol engine then it would be like getting a personal visit from god it would be that good  onto no6 Range Rover

What I'm about to say, I will get flame for it, I am actually disappointed with the FFRR ride, I was expecting air cushioned ride quality it doesn't absorb bumps and potholes as well, there're many other cars which could do better

Kin, I do know what you mean about the ride although i have 20" Wheels and it was better when i ran the 18". However it isnt a problem on Mway & A Roads but noticeable on the B Roads. Having said that, previous car was an XK8 - Ride outstanding. But overall, i just sit back and enjoy myself and i forget about any of the minor negatives

Agreed! Great for crusing on the motorway But not exactly magic carpet ride around town, despite it having air suspensions.

Btw, I've had my first off-road excursion today..I climbed up on the kerb to get past a car waiting to turn right into a side street

Go get em Tiger - Now a muddy field beckons and you are a full member of the FFRR Off Road Club

I had a similar feeling the other day while driving through the Derbyshire dales on a minor road in a very icy and foggy winter wonderland scene. I was driving along, when I realised I was actually enjoying the drive.

Not a miracle, except that my previous car was rear wheel drive and I would have been driving every inch of that road with parts of my anatomy twitching

With regards to the suspension, well, it can be a bit hard and "wallowy". It ain't quite Citroen DS standard, but it does corner well when compared to an original Disco or RR Classic (ie. your sphincter doesn't clench every time you go round a bend too fast and come out the other side thinking "I didn't know a car could roll that far and stay a)upright b)on the road. I'll slow down!"

There have been a few occasions though when I've been glad that I drive an oil burner. You know - the ones where you think, "I'd have been going a lot faster in a Supercharged and would be in that ditch by now!"
