Suspension Height Sensor confusion

after a lot of messing about i have found that my rear right (driver side) Suspension Height Sensor is reading 4.5 volts no mater ho high or low i set the suspension, used the BMW tool to move the axle independently and got it to give me a read out of the sensor voltages Razz

so new sensor required ....... look it up and find part number RQH100030 great ! just about to place the order and find a note saying "For L322 models with Xenon headlights, the right hand side sensor is RQH000091 (to VIN 4A174107)" and yes i have Xenons Confused
look for the part and find a few that are very expensive and a few sites that say RQH100030 can be used or supersedes RQH000091 Censored

can anyone tell me for a 2002 with Xenons what should i get ?????

I don't know is the honest answer but I use the Russian microcat site that shows what part numbers you need depending on chassis number and if you have the early l322 with xenons you will have the troublesome headlight levelling ECU sitting in a puddle in your passenger foot well.
I then go on the britcar site which is good at showing superseded part numbers and alternatives and failing that I talk to my local main dealer who is really helpful or island 4x4

Just had all this....

They specify a different sensor for zenons, my old one had six pins in it, the replacement only had three like the non zenon ones... I queried it with Dan, he asked and they said that was how they are now... no explanation as to why they don't use all six pins as before.... lights seem to work fine and are level and no warnings or faults logged so I suppose it doesn't matter...

So buy the cheap non zenon one and save some dosh... still annoyed I paid over the top for the correct sensor that was the same as the cheap one.... Evil or Very Mad Pete

order the cheap one Smile

just found a setting on the diagnostics that i have can change the setting for the light levels , also found a hack on one of the BMW forums that allows you to add a pot to trick the leveling unit so you can move the independently !

let you know what happens

Got the cheap one that's supposed to be OK for cars with zenons, fitted it yesterday and it does not work . the BMW diagnostics show at full height it reads + 1 volt and at its lowest setting it reads0.6 volts the others read between 4.5 and1.5 volts . this may be down to it being a Brit part one but not convinced that is not down to it not being the right one for zenons. luckily the arm was the only thing that was broke on the old one so out of the 2 I was able to make a good one Very Happy

Had bad height and ABS sensors from Britpart, don't bother any more.... genuine or OE only...

Only use britpart for bits that don't move or measure anything now...

Glad you managed to sort it... Thumbs Up Pete
