6hp26 transmission/transfer slipped into neutral

This may be nothing but will ask anyway.

This morning I was driving the tdv8, which had a low km transmission and transfer fitted about 5000km ago. I reused my old valve block and TCM.

This morning after turning into a street under moderate acceleration there was a whiring noise and a momentary lack of forward motion as though it had slipped into neutral. I eased off the accelerator, then it was normal again. I used the IID tool to run a series of fault checks, but nothing substantial came up.

I have heard of instances mainly with the D3/4 where the transmission needed to be recalibrated. Maybe I should do that.

Any advice or explanation appreciated.
Thanks. ______________________________

I'd first check if the selector cable and mechanism are in good shape. Wouldn't surprise me if something came loose not being tighted properly when the work was done and the selector is actually pulling it into neutral or keeping it on the edge.

After the work, I assume that the ECU was reset and that you (or the shop) have done the re-learning procedure ?? Then the ECU learns all the new values and your driving style from scratch. The re-learning procedure is quite simple, just a bit of driving up and down with specified gear shifts. Should take about 10 mins to do on an empty(ish) stretch of road.

If the above doesn't help, please try to contact RRPhil, our resident gearbox guru, he may have an idea what is going on or should hopefully be able to help you find out.

This box does sometimes have a problem with one of the solenoids (happened to several on here) but that displays different issues, so unlikely to have anything to do with your current problem. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Thanks mate. I'll have a look on the weekend. I assume they relearned the transmission.

The plan is, down the track to swap in the newer valve block. ______________________________

I would also check the transmission fluid level.

Thanks again for the replies. Should I be checking cable connections at the selector or transmission end? ______________________________

I'd start at the gearbox end first as that is the part that has been loose. Also have a good look around to see if the cable is free, check if the wiring connector is also seated properly, just to be sure.

And while you are it, I'd suggest to clean and grease the mechanism as per the wiki, it prevents future issues Smile MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
