Rear Near Side brakes binding

Hi guys,

My near side rear brake is binding and the alloy wheel is very hot to touch with the normal train station brake smell! Any ideas on what I can do to enable me to drive the car without overheating the discs/wheel?

The weird thing is I can move the car when off in neutral so the disc doesn't seem to be completely seized..

Grateful for any thoughts. Should I not drive in the meantime?

Regards

Jase

depends how handy you are with spanners you can either remove the wheel and then the caliper and use grips to push the pistons back in and then put the caliper back on and operate the brake repeat a couple of times to see if it fixes the problem if not you either need a rebuild kit or new caliper or if you are not that handy get a mobile mechanic to do it either way you can't drive it L322 2008 vogue

Thanks Ivor..

I tried pushing the car in the drive in neutral and it was fine so went out for a drive and after I braked at 60 mph I got a lot of vibration and then driving slowly I could here a scraping noise on the near side rear wheel accompanied by a nasty hot brake smell. So my drive out was abandoned and my FF is now back at LR!

What annoys me is I had front discs and pads done last month and you think they would have checked the rear!

Of course on a long weekend so now the wait for a fix and the resultant damage to wallet!!

Time to talk to Dan Thumbs Up

Common problem & worth doing both sides. When I did mine, I got a very good price from Dan - callipers on an exchange basis

The rear calipers are a weak point on the FFRR and usually go close together, so good choice to replace both, pity that you had to do it so shortly after discs and pads though. Hope that you will have many more problem free miles. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!
