How to :- Bling up your door pins....

The drivers door lock pin on mine had got a nasty injury from something and was looking rather sorry for itself... never really paid much attention to them but IMHO they do look a bit cheap....

So I decided to bling them up... this is the result in case you can't be bothered to read how to do it... Rolling Eyes

First thing is order some of these

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251977416516?_tr...EBIDX%3AIT

If it's years down the line when you read this then do an eBay search for 4 CHROME BRASS door lock knob grommets for LAND RANGE ROVER Discovery Freelander

Also get some of these, they are for a Mercedes but are identical in size and fitment with the FF ones, just chromed...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/141858054432?_tr...EBIDX%3AIT

Mercedes part number A 000 994 06 11

You can remove the old and fit the new with the door card still in place... a nice quick job....

First get a pair of pliers and wrap the jaws in a cloth if you want to keep your old pins, grab hold of the pin with the door unlocked and open, it takes quite a bit of force to get them off, be careful you don't hit the window when they let go, they are not screwed on like a lot of cars they have a pinch arrangement in the plastic pin and they just push on and pull off...

You will end up with this...

Then use a trim tool (I really need a new one, mine has seen better days..!!!)or other piece of plastic and gently tease up the surround, it won't catch on anything, will just pop out fine...

You should now have this..

Give it a good clean around it... I then wiped it with some alcohol to remove any interior trim polish etc

The new pins just push on, does hurt your thumb a bit but they will click home...

This is the double sided tape on the back of the pin surrounds...

I did try just sticking it on like that but the tape is cheap and not very sticky, and the hole in the FF door trim is a bit large so only about 1/2 the tape sticks.... I added 4 tiny spots of superglue to the tape, lined up the pin in the center of the hole and pushed them home, it has stuck very well and I'm sure will be fine, if you did want to return to original the old surround would cover any glue marks...

You then end up with this

and locked....

I like them, I think they look fine and not too OTT...

Hang on is that one the one with the injury as it looks identical to all mine and straight out of the factory.
Are you sure you're not starting to find faults that don't exist mate (aka excuses to get out of the house and into the man cave?) :rolllaugh:

Nice job, Pete. Not my taste, but a good write up and well explained.

Then again, maybe Piano black is an option for those of us with dark interiors... Idea Si. <This is my name.
