Not for me either. All very "lowest common denominator"

The wife likes it for the laughs, mainly at NEDs and their inane rantings and she also kindly looks at the LR pages for me sometimes but actually finding something decent in all that junk is like shopping for vegetables in an open air market in Dehli, having taken the bus from London.

I started because my oldest friend moved to the US. I knew I would lose touch with him. However he was keen on Facebook so I joined up. It does give me a sense of what my mates and their families are doing.

If someone spams a load of drivel, you just unfollow them and they disappear. I am fairly ruthless.

It's easy really. Join pages that interest you and visit them exclusively.

My privacy settings are very strict so no-one can see anything beyond my chosen picture & wallpaper. I gave FB a false date of birth and beyond my name and town of birth, they have no personal details recorded about me....no phone number, nothing. I don't use my phone for it and I've disabled location services anyway. All groups and likes (interests) are hidden.

There isn't really any need to 'Friend' people on it which cuts down the involvement to the pages you subscribe to only. And if anyone does start posting spam on a page you follow or is being an idiot, then block them and you never see anything they post ever again; simple.
All the decent pages have pretty good rules for behaviour (some are very strict) and Admin/Moderators are normally quick to sort out i.e. get rid off, any idiots.

There is a goodly amount of inane drivel on there but that is easy to avoid. There are, however, some gems of interest pages on there and that is the only reason I use it and they are the only pages I use. It is also easy to avoid hateful and horrible stuff...

P.S. The search should have been for Range Rover Register, a closed group that only participants of the page can see.

Heard a Facebook rumour other day....if you look up someone, say from your past, to be say, 'ex-partner nosey' etc...
..they get suggestions, of 'people you might know' . So you sort of accidentally get requests back, and hook up with some old 'mattress tester' from a party, and, before you know it... your whole life goes down the pan. Shocked

I'm on it, but don't frequent it.
It's like putting a notice board in your front garden.

As I suggested earlier, there are more professional alternatives out there that avoid and prevent the constant drivel poster.

Now can I ask those of you already on facebook; what is the most inane, self centered or stupid piece of drivel you've been sent or notified of via facebook? I have an acquaintance who insists on posting photos of herself holding a drink in her hand every time she flies out on holiday. Why? So what, your sat in the Virgin lounge waiting for your flight having a drink. Who gives a @#£s Travelling around in circles again.

^ Turn off notification for each friend and page you don't want to hear everything about. Thumbs Up

I use it, too.

I'm particular whom I have as friends and don't merely enlist everyone I know on there. I have rejected a number of friend requests because I don't now the individuals well enough.

There are an increasing amount of specialist pages that have proved highly useful and interesting. Like GLM, I select my privacy settings accordingly to avoid the trash and for me to focus on what I want to see.

However, the biggest advantage for me is being able to keep up with what my friends and family are up to, almost on a daily basis. There are also a number of helpful sites for our village with people posting memories, old photos, local business adverts and general discussion. I find that quite handy. Si. <This is my name.

Reading some comments I'm amazed how some posters on here talk down on people that do things they don't like. IMO that sais more about them than about FB users. If people like the Bentayga they seem to be tastless because money doen't seem to buy taste, if they have the "wrong" tailpipe on their LR they are ....etc. Etc. Come on get a life. If you can't afford a Bentayga or if you don't like it, if you don't like FB or your neighbours tailpipe it doesn't mean that others are lesser humans, less intelligent etc. If you don't like fb stay away, if you don't like a tv programm, switch off. I find it sad to see how some of us seem to find it necessary to defend themselves because they are on fb.

Pffff so that is out of my system
