Whats all the fuss about Facebook

I thought to myself lunchtime - 'I'll sign up to FB just to see the all new range rover register forum etc'.

Absolutely shocked to see how much personal data is needed to create a FB account. That said, receiving confirmation from both my 16 and 19 year old lads that I could keep things relatively private, I thought I'd go ahead. It took 90 seconds to create an account but thereafter the amount of total drivel one is exposed to is laughable. Search for RRR gave a number of results including pictures posted by members. Clicking on one of these photos I was soon able to read a diatribe about muslims and how one should do as the Romans do when in Rome? Sorry but how do get from an innocent RRR search to an EDF rant in two clicks???

I'm not generalising about any group of people you understand (and I'm not saying I disagree) but it was literally two taps after the search and wow....

Had a general look around FB and what people think other people want to read beggars belief. 'just going to the shops' or 'just about to wipe my ar*e' are just a few clicks away. Stunningly important stuff to some I'm sure but not my cup of tea.

FB is total sh*t.

Anyway, having confirmed my suspicions that FB is not for the more discerning human I decided to delete my account. Guess what... it takes 90 seconds to create one but 14 days to delete it. Just enough time for my details to be sold on to the highest bidder. My account will be there until 1st July, deactivated or otherwise that's total bullocks.

I shudder to think how FB posts will come back to bite bottoms all over the place in time. Folks naivety is astounding.

Two things I've learned today... 1. Social media is poo and needs avoiding at all costs and 2. If benefiting from a forum or any other form of club membership ever relies on being on FB then it 'aint worth it.

There. Put my head over the parapet and suspect I'm a lone figure. The fact that FB has become such an entwined part of our society is mighty sad. Big Cry

... and relax. 405 AB exec seats Baltic and Cirrus

You are not alone. Don't do FB or Twitter or any other "social" media. Think they are a trap for the unwary. Possible exception is Linkedin but as I am long retired, and no one would want to link with me anyway Mr. Green , don't do that either. Very Happy John

The amount you get out of Facebook, like most things in life, is determined by what you put in....

If you have a specific interest or hobby then it is a great way to find like minded people or groups, it is also great if you are nosie. condemning something after 30mins of joining is not really giving it a chance....

There are now over one billion people on Facebook, they can't all be wrong..... Rolling Eyes Pete

There are some good alternatives to facebook for the more discerning social media users. If you google or bing you'll find a suitable alternative for your needs.
Despite FB being populated by good quality interest groups, the vast majority of it is truly Censored .
However I wish I'd invented it, I'd have a great collection of Landrovers Very Happy Travelling around in circles again.

Deleted my account 7 years ago now, they wanted to know who was related to who, which I thought was very intrusive.
Don't do it, don't want to do it. Yawn

Pete, it's nothing about being right or wrong. For me it's about wanting to be in it or not. John

Something that wanted access to my photos, my contacts, my email, my phone number, my date of birth and my name does not deserve 30 mins. I'm happy t condemn it after 10 particularly when I read what I read in 5 without even searching for the topic.

Plus I've seen at first hand what social media can do to kids.

Condem I will and ban if i could. Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad 405 AB exec seats Baltic and Cirrus

Been using Facebook for a LONG time now and like it for what it is, an easy way to keep up to date with what is happening with my friends and family that are on there and keep them up to date on some of the stuff that is happening in my life.

I also use it more than the Suzuki B-King forum (my favourite motorbike) for keeping up to date with the other B-King nutters in the world. The B-King forum is very much like the FFRR forum, both the actual forum and the Facebook page. Very positive and helpful forum members that like their bike as much as we like our FFRRs with one major difference, the bike is ultra reliable (apart from a few little niggles, regulator recall, clutch bolts and sidestand switch Smile ).

Never used Facebook for anything related to the FFRR since this forum is vastly superior to anything else FFRR related of course.

Because we move around the world quite a bit and so do a lot of our friends, Facebook is really handy to stay in touch with all those friends and the family at home (my wife and I are from different countries and have family in various countries around the world).

For me Facebook has a perfect set-up (my privacy settings are very "private" and I just don't post anything on there that I want to keep from the world in case my account gets hacked, i.e. no pictures of my kids for example) to fill a need specific to our lifestyle. So I'm all for Facebook as it is at the moment and use it as such. Same as some of the other online facilities that are out there.

I also know quite some people that have stopped using Facebook because it doesn't fill their needs or whatever and that is fine as well. If they want to keep up with me, there are other ways as well Smile.

PS this is a B-King, 180+ BHP, Hayabuse detuned engine. Handles like a dream and puts most other bikes and high end sportscars to shame of the line Smile.
