405 or RRS big dilemma your help needed!!

The time has now come to buy my first 405 Very Happy

Trouble is i also took the RRS out for a test drive Embarassed

And as such stuck in a dilemma

I have owned a RRS previously although the model previous and loved it, but i have never had a FFRR and have always promised myself one Embarassed

i took out the 405 3.0 and the 4.4 there was a much better feel and prowess in the 4.4 (so that was that dilemma put to bed in my head!)
i took out the 3.0 RRS and it also felt really good
i then was offered to take out a supercharged RRS and WOW i loved it it was awesome i mean absolutely Censored awesome Mr. Green but being 37 with two kids and occasionally towing a caravan i think the supercharged may not look right Neutral

So what are the pros and cons for the RRS and 405 to help me out? 2010 defender utility

Rolling with laughter I very nearly bought an L494

In the end it was the need for a little more space - and you will laugh, but a solid parcel shelf swung the deal. We have a couple of small dogs - and with a half height dog guard, they have the parcel shelf as their domain.

Once my kids have left home, I think I'll be in a Sport next time around Embarassed

I'm scared to drive an SVR as I think I'd buy one on the spot Shocked

I had that dilemma a few years ago. Loved the FF SC, but also loved the Sport SC for the handling. In the end I got both !! If your budget can stretch to it, and you're not too bothered about age, go for a 12 plate 5.0 L322 and a Sport 5.0. Your caravan won't know what's hit it !! Thumbs Up Tony

Mmm I've been driving a new Sport for the past 2 weeks as my L405 has been off the road due to a blown engine Whistle

Without going into all the reasons suffice to say I really want my L405 back this week. The sport is ..... More sporty but it will never be a sports car Embarassed I've done over 2000 miles in the sport now in the 2 weeks I've had it (yep I've hammered it) and at times I've been glad to get out of it, others I've actually felt a little queasy.

I costed up the sport I've been given and with the options fitted it's over £70k, I would rather have the base FFRR Vogue if I'm honest.

If you want a family wagon and a sporty feel then I can understand it but don't fool yourself into thinking it will ever be a sports car.

Ps don't get fooled into the V8 engine, I know two mates now who have gone from an L405 3 litre to the V8 and regretted it. The 3 litre is more refined and plenty powerful enough for a big barge like the L405. Unless you want to pay a premium and not have as refined an engine for more useable torque from 70+ in real world driving don't bother IMHO. And that's from someone who's 3 litre has gone pop, I still think it's a great engine.I hope my second last longer though lol

I have had the 3.0 diesel, v6 gas and now V8 gas LWB. There is no better engine better than V8 gas. Yes a bit more gas but well worth it. Already in line for 2017 LWB when we can order one.

It's such a hard decision! I am the type that has to be 100% clear in my head before I commit especially with this sort of money circa 70k. Shocked

The only REAL decision you need to consider is what colour combination your 5.0 SC should be ! Thumbs Up Tony

United Kingdom 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Baltic Blue

I have had a Vogue ff in some form or other for over 25 years now, but for 2 reasons I am pretty sure I would by a RRS if I decided to change.
1) I I recently spent half a day at the NYorks LR experience in a new RRS. and it really impressed me.
2) I have just had a 16 reg loaner for a week and really got to like it.

Having said that I have just returned from a quick trip to the football in France and my 2011 Tdv8 was brilliant.
It is super comfortable, averaged 33mpg over the 900 mile return journey at speeds which must have left my DPF shiny clean inside.

England 2012 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Buckingham Blue

Last June in the Sates we had use of a 405 and a 494, both were fine cars.
I also used a 5.0SC which was used to haul a race car trailer up mountains. It lacked a little of the torque of the diesels and showed 3mpg at some points on the ascent..... Shocked
I came home and took delivery of a 4.4 TDV8 (L322) which I'm very pleased with.

I guess you have just got to go with the Bear necessities, the simple Bear necessities.... Very Happy Wink Rolling with laughter 2012MY Range Rover 4.4 TDV8 Vogue...now gone!
