England 2003 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Zambezi Silver

Ok, quick update.

I got my IID today and went a checking. I did a fault check it came back fine, there were quite a few historical faults but they cleared down ok. The niggling thing is there was no reporting of a door latch being open or an associated fault, I could lock, unlock, secure lock and open windows but nothing to say that one of the doors were open.

Bit disappointing actually, I don't know if I was expecting more from the IID tool or maybe I'm not using it properly or not digging far enough, but from what I could see there really wasn't the facility to interrogate the door latches, but then again if there was a fault in one of the latches it would have said so.

So in the main the problem still exists, I'll do more digging tomorrow with IID to see what I can uncover

A quick word of thanks to Dan from Duckworths he managed to get me the IID tool really really quickly, in fact I think I got the last one and all the others are on back order. So thanks Dan you're a star..

Hmmmm, that's a shame nothing shows up, there are endless faults that can be registered against the door locks...

Might be worth sending a PM to Pat at GAP (see site sponsor) they are very helpful with "weird" faults, he may be able to point you in the right direction... Thumbs Up Pete

Hi Pete, I know odd isn't it unless the BCU is screwing up but still registering as OK.

I'll give pat a pm and see what turns up.

Hi, good idea about switch. I'll source one and swap it out.

I'm not sure the results of a door actually reporting as shutting or opening go through the switch but hey, who knows what those engineers were thinking of when they designed this car....

It's a cheap fix / attempt so I'll give it a go, you never know........

Hi All, my new CDL switch arrived today and I've just been up to fit it and guess what, it doesn't work....

So it looks like the problem lies elsewhere. I've asked GAP for help regarding the interrogation of the BCU and door latches to see if I can pinpoint the exact problem.

In the meantime I've ordered a second hand drivers door latch, it's a known good one from a guy breaking his Range Rover to raise some cash and he guarantees it's ok, so we'll just have to wait and see.

Another quick question as I don't have an owners manual, are you supposed to be able to lock all of the doors from a door button, I mean the one that pops up and down when you remotely lock the doors. I can't, on any of the doors.

Regards to all. ______________________________

PM me your email address and I'll send you a PDF of the owners manual... Thumbs Up

The buttons only lock their own door... Thumbs Up Pete

Quick question while on this subject, I was out to the car last night at midnight because my garden runs adjacent to a farm track and I am always worried someone might try out the Range Rover security for fun.

I looked inside and noticed the gear lever position lights were on, red P etc etc, so I thought oh oh the FSR is playing up. I decided to retrace my steps and realised that I had tried the tailgate handle / switch and one of the back door handles, so went in the house and waited 20 mins. Came back out, lights near gear stick had gone out and thought I was on to something, what with my dodgy latches. So tried the drivers door handle, no lights came on, tried the passenger front door handle, same again. The same happened with the other doors, no lights, so puzzled by this I tried the tailgate again and the gear stick lights came on........

So my observation is, that after ordering both front door latches, given that they are the most used, it may be that my tailgate latch is the one that's probably knackered.

Does anyone agree with that observation or are the lights meant to come on when you try the tailgate, although to be honest I can't see why...

Depends what's enabled in the CCF. You can set it to have the front interior lights come on when you open the tailgate. Or you can have it that only the boot illumination comes on. John

Hi thanks for that but I probably didn't make myself clear enough. I didn't unlock the car I just tried the handles to make sure it was locked. It was only when I tried the locked tailgate switch that the gear position lights next to the gear stick came on.

Tailgate open or closed does not stop the EAS working so you would think it must be a door lock issue, not a tailgate.... BUT... stranger things have happened before like the recent one on here where the rear PDC loom defect stopped the drivers electric seat from working.... Pete

Tailgate latch.

Just tried this, with the car fully locked and asleep ie red light adjacent to "P" out I tried squeezing the tailgate unlock button and low and behold the red light came on. I have absolutely no idea why this happens other than to say all my door locking and air suspension is operating correctly.......for now. Rolling Eyes
When I squeezed the unlock button I'm sure I heard a micro-switch operating but couldn't be sure.

Maybe we've just found the most obscure character defect in a Range Rover, who knows Sad

Well it's been well over a week since I last reported on my problem and I'm pleased to say that the problem has been resolved, and it's all down the the guys at GAP.

Patrick persevered with my emails and descriptions of the problem and diagnosed that the wrong version of firmware / software was installed on my BPM / BCU. I had v10 instead of v4 installed and that was causing all of the confusion within the cars systems. So the Team at GAP sourced the firmware / software uploaded it to my IIDtool and asked me to go out to the car.

So a quick update, or downgrade, depending on your point of view and all is well. So a moral to this tale is that the most obvious cause may not be the cause after all.

If you've had your Range Rover looked at by a BMW techie they may have inadvertently updated your ecu's to the latest BMW firmware / software, as mine apparently was, albeit by the previous owner.

So my thanks go out to Patrick and the Team at GAP for all of their help and patience and their amazing IIDtool, I can't stress enough just how indispensable the IIDtool is I really can't, and to all on this forum thanks for the help and support.

Regards to all. ______________________________
