Hi all and sorry if this has been done to death but I can't find a definitive answer to this annoying problem.

I bought the Range Rover 4.4 V8 petrol a week or so ago and everything has been fine... Up till now that is. Went out this morning and unlocked the car with the remote, opened the door the interior lights went off? Shut the door the interior lights came on, started to drive the car with the interior lights on and a message banging away on the screen ' door open '. As you would expect the suspension is now inactive and I'm being told by the car to keep the speed down.

I suspect a dodgy latch but which one? Knowing my luck I'll start at one door and eventually find the problem at door number 4!! I'm just after a good bit of advice from you venerable lot to point me in the right direction of the dodgy latch or whatever else it may be.

Open and slam all the doors, boot and bonnet a couple of times, you may find it goes away... If not try a battery disconnect (see WIKI)

If not you need an IID tool or similar to help diagnose which one, or you will end up just changing stuff for the sake of it... Pete

Hi Pete, thanks for info but I've tried the slamming of the doors, so much so that my neighbours must have thought PMT was finally kicking in.

Interestingly I haven't tried the bonnet.....I was thinking as you have suggested a diagnostic solution but wasn't sure if they were indepth enough to diagnose a door open fault.

I was thinking the allcomms from Storey Wilson was the way to go, what do you think?

Personally I wouldn't have one, the IID is the class leader and does everything the dealer can do and more, the back up from GAP is superb...

They are expensive to start with but if you do a lot of repairs yourself they will soon pay for themselves and they are always worth a good amount should you sell the FF....  Pete

I've decided to go for the IID Tool as it seems to give the best all round performance for the price. The problem still remains with a latch I think, can't check which one as I don't have my IID yet but I did strip down the drivers side today but no change.

One thing I have noticed is that the centre button that operates the central locking isn't working. I'm just wondering if this is because a door is being reported as open and has disabled the function, can anyone clarify?

If not then it looks like the BCU might be playing up and require a kicking - errm sorry a reset to default settings.

Do your indicators flash once when you lock the car with a key fob?

That implies all 5 doors including the tailgate are operating correctly.
The bonnet switch doesn't come into play when locking the car, it only affects the alarm/immobiliser.
The above tends to suggest something is moving when you drive the car due to vibration.
If it was me I'd be inclined to look at the rear tailgate as I don't think any of the passenger doors are likely to move much when driving.
The one thing that might allow the upper tailgate to move sufficiently relative to the lower tailgate is the security of the lower tailgate when locked. when in the closed position is the lower tailgate solidly in position, the two locks on each upper end of the tailgate have a habit of either not locking securely or not locking at all in which case the lower tailgate can move about a bit.
Apart from that you might unfortunately have to wait until you get your IID tool to verify which door is at fault.
Just a thought, how do you know the air suspension is in-active? Are the orange lights off or is the display showing "air suspension inactive"?

Good advice thank you. The suspension is inactive as I can't change the ride height at all. I toggle the switch to say - off-road height and the LEDs just flash and no change in height, even after waiting a minute or so, it's the same with access height on either the door button or the suspension toggle on the dash.

I'd like to get under the car to look for a small oil leak but need the car in off-road so I can get under, but........

I'll check the tailgate latches to make sure they are latching securely and report back.

Unfortunately despite what I said above what you say about the air suspension not moving tends to suggest it's one of the passenger doors causing the problem not the tailgate. The tailgate being open doesn't inhibit the air suspension changing height.
What you could do is next time you unlock the car is to get in the passenger door instead of the drivers door and climb over into the drivers seat and then drive as normal and see if anything changes re lights and air suspension.

Hi, ok so I've just checked the tailgate and it latches securely with no movement at all, I even activated the latches with a screwdriver to simulate it being shut and no difference.

The thing that puzzles me is that the interior lights come on when I remotely or with the key, unlock the car but they go off when I open any door, then they come back on when I close the door. It's as if the logic has fully turned around.

Everything looks to be working apart from the CDL switch in the dash, the suspension is not working although the LEDs are on, respective to the switch position and the lights are on constantly until it times out at 16 minutes..

Did you try battery disconnect (often resolves a multitude of sins, resets ECUs and banishes electrical gremlins back in their box (for a while )) or are you going to wait for your IID Tool to show up? .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember

Also it may be the BCU that is causing the problem rather than the doors. I would wait for the iiD tool before going into that.

In the meantime try holding the interior light switch for more than 3 seconds. That should put the interior lights it permanent off but still allow the rear interior light to be used. Not a permanent solution but would avoid the annoyance until you have been able to diagnose the fault.

Doesn't really help with the suspension problem though. John

I've a sneaky feeling that somewhere somehow it's dropped itself into semi transportation mode, as I'm exhibiting some of the faults associated with it but not all.
