Emergency key slot missing

I keep my RR stored as I don’t use it daily. I’ve not seen it for a few weeks and the fob wouldn’t work today. I’ve only owned it a few months so this is the first issue. No biggie, I go to try the emergency key but there’s no slot in the passenger side door handle. Is there something amiss or is there another way to access this model in emergency.

I’m hoping it’s just the fob battery but I’d still like to find a solution to this, in case.

Any help much appreciated.

Hi
Presumably you have removed the rearmost part of the door handle to reveal the keyhole?
(No offence intended as I made the same mistake years ago). 2017 Jaguar F Pace 25t Portfolio - still part of the JLR family 😀

No offence taken, I appreciate the reply.

The removal of the rear of the handle is the crux of the issue as the slot used to remove that part with the key doesn’t exist. I have the slot on my Discovery 3, but there’s nothing on the RR. And I’d rather not damage paintwork trying to pry it off.

It also doesn’t make sense to me as all the guides reference this slot. I can only think that a previous owner replaced it with the incorrect part?

Has it had new door handle covers slotted over the original handle, like powerful uk sell?

Good idea. But they really don’t seem to. I did pull the handle and check it out from the side and it’d didn’t seem to have a double layer, if you know what I mean.

Have you checked the other side?

Are you able to get under the front of the car and attach a charger to the +ve stud of the starter motor & the ground to the engine? - easiest done with the OSF wheel off but I guess your locking wheel bolt key is in the car...

If so, leave it on charge for a couple of hours before trying to unlock.

Having had a quick search there are some quite cheap replacement door handle parts if you need to sacrifice the one you have. Do you have towing electrics as that can be another potential route for getting some charge into the battery. 2017 Jaguar F Pace 25t Portfolio - still part of the JLR family 😀

Thanks for all the input.

I managed to pry the handle section off with a “glasses screwdriver” and no harm was done. If the photos load you can see the notch is present but it doesn’t go through the outer part of the cover. Not sure how I’ll fix that.

In the end the fob was fine but the car battery itself was dead. 1.95v dead to be exact. Im not sure why it drained so badly over a month and a half. There may be a draining issue, or sitting on a car lot for months unused and unsold may simply have taken its toll. Im not sure I’d trust a stickler charge (I’d have to buy a new charger), so am tempted to buy a new battery and back it up with a Noco. I’ll be removing the negative terminal from now on (after the required two minutes).

Am not looking forward to removing the battery. Seems to be quite a handful.

My thanks again.

If you have to change your battery then remove the pollen filter assembly first and use some steps to gain a little height. You will find the details on here on how to gain plenty of room and safety dis connect the battery etc. Doing this makes it all straightforward.
Thumbs Up

Thanks, I had a look at the wiki. Just need to remember all my tools, I guess and a stool.

Sorry my photos didn't load last time. I have re linked properly now I hope. You can see the battery details there and I son't think the correct battery was installed by previous owner or garage. I may still have a drain issue, but we'll see.

So I picked up the Yusa battery recommended by Halfords and went off to replace the dud.

The wiki was very helpful, but the further in I got, the more red flags started popping up.

There was clear evidence someone had been in there before.

The red levers to remove the ecu cables were damaged and barely worked. Some bits were missing and the windscreen cowl was loose and missing plastic clips.

The battery clamps were rusted in too.

I did manage to get the battery in finally but it was much too big. So big the positive clamp hadn’t room to clip in.

So I decided it would be best to return the battery. But of course, I had put the ecu back in. Unfortunately, both ecu cables’ red levers snapped off and left the ecu cables stuck. I had to leave it there. Wondering if I’m doing more harm than good.

I'm just going to do a quick update on this, as someone may or may not be interested. Ladn Rover dealer here in Dublin didn't want to talk to me when I presented them with the issue. They were relatively polite, but still feel showing up in my work clothes wasn't the best idea.

Anyhow, spoke to a very knowledgable independent who will take the job on. Right now, a new loom may be the safest answer.

Conclusion for anyone interested.

It looks like the garage I bought the car from tried to change the battery. I’m doing so they damaged the connections for the loom, the cowl, the drain pipe from the cowl to the outside of the car and used the incorrect battery. Halfords also sold me the incorrect battery, but have refunded me.

I bought a new cowl as none seemed to be available used and have been enjoying the car immensely since. I’ve been working on small issues like with the side steps, etc and continue to be impressed with how easily some of the problems can be fixed.
