Whats up with the gear knob? Don't older L322's have that? I think it looks fantastic but is it style over function?

Spot on. It looks lovely and it clears the top of the transmission tunnel. However, if you want to move from D to R and back again, it sort of means you have to glance down to look at it - there is very little manual frame of reference. The buttons on my Aston do the job far better.

I'd also like to see the ability to spec some of the SVAutobiography stuff with the hybrid or 4.4 engine.

How about a seat heater than doesn't burn your arse off (Mercedes do it really well) and a clock that keeps time, preferably one that self adjusts for BST (like Mercedes have done for years). MY23 D350 HSE

1) Plugin hybrid version with sufficient EV range (>45km). Will open up for a lot of sales for the L405 in Norway (due to significantly less import/registration tax on plugin hybrids. Full EV are sold without VAT and import taxes in Norway!)
2) Plugin hybrid version with sufficient EV range!
3) Autopilot – self driving capabilities
4) Gear selector (usability)
5) LED main headlights with matrix beam technology (as the new Panamera)

Well, give me a Supercharged Range Rover over a Hybrid of any sort any day!

2) Plugin hybrid version with sufficient EV range!

See above!

3) Autopilot – self driving capabilities

I actually like to drive I don't need the car to drive for me!

4) Gear selector (usability)

Gear selector perfectly fine for me. Perhaps you would prefer the car to self-select for you and then automatically switch to self-drive, a dream for you but a nightmare for me. When cars will be fully autonomous, I'll stop buying new cars.

5) LED main headlights with matrix beam technology (as the new Panamera)

That's the one item I would agree with as it enhances the driving experience instead of making driving a boring experience.

The Plugin hybrid wish is purely because L405 currently are so much more expensive - due to taxes in Norway - than it would have been in a plugin version. Volvo XC90 T8 is less than 1/2 price compared with an SDV8, due to taxation. So I think that the L405 would have sold a lot better - in Norway - if there were a version that had a 40-50% price reduction compared with the TDV6 or SDV8.

Autopilot: I also prefer driving myself, but I think that cars with cognitive systems will get so many benefits (insurance, taxation,...) in the future that it eventually will become standard in new cars. And it would be nice to have the opportunity to let the car drive for itself in a congestion, or when being a bit tired....

Gear selector - I prefer to have a properly gear stick as in the L322 or the RRS (that's what I meant, probably used the "selector" word incorrectly...)

Never had a problem with wheel being too hot and I've had four LR in the past four years with this feature.

My thoughts after 10k miles of ownership

1) A button to disable the auto close function on the tailgate, several times my dog has set it off when I had my head stuck in the boot!
2) Scratch proof gloss trim
3) Better carpet protection for the drivers foot well
4) Easy menu navigation for the surround camera system (and faster)
5) More up to date infotainment

On the whole I am really enjoying the car, I cant think of anything I would replace it with. Just annoying that some of the elements that mark out a luxury car are not well finished. Both BMW and Audi have far better infotainment setups, however they cannot compete on ride composure and comfort....and this is mainly why I bought this car.

James, just on carpet protection, you could buy the LR accessory rubber mats, cost about £150.

On the changes, my main wish would be for better quality and durability. There seem to be far too many failures for the price.
Beyond that, I'd like to see more focus on practicality and the luxury side being more optional.

1. Petrol or petrol/electric hybrid drivetrain at all spec levels. On which topic I see Ford Bridgend will stop making engines next year (5.0sc and 3.0V6 are Bridgend): what's coming from Castle Bromwich/ingenium?
2. Rear seats that tumble as well as fold.
3. Mirrors that fold in further and do not produce the effect of sucking water/dirt on to the glass.
4. Simpler wheel designs and homologation of Goodyear Duratrac 255/55R20 (this might happen when Disco 5 is available, I hope).
5. Self-jacking technology, either as per Touring Cars or some better way. Only Range Rovers since 1988

There are some 3 litre straight 6's on the way later this year.

Petrol six-cylinder: 300/400/500bhp
Diesel six-cylinder: 275/335/400bhp

Don't know what will happen to the V8. With 2 litre 4 cyclinder engines getting on for 400bhp you'd think a 3 litre 6 would be enough.

Good spot that and it goes some way to understanding why they've stuck with the tdv6 up until now (basically saving the development budget) Thumbs Up until the new ingeniums come on line.
