My first real issue with the TDV8 Vogue SE in 7000 miles of ownership...and I fear it is my own fault.

Decided to give the low ratio a go, just to keep things from seizing up....but stuck it into reverse and forgot to take the parking brake off....BIG bang! I had thought the EPB automatically released if the vehicle was set in motion by the driver?

Nothing wrong inside either of the parking brake drums...all as it should be...but I am getting the screech of death and Parking Brake System inoperable message. If on an incline, it may work normally momentarily only to then start to roll downhill...screech and error message rapidly following. Drums also now getting hot. I assume I need a new module and it will be a pig to fit? Or is it possible it has snapped a cable that can be replaced (even if LR won't sell separate cables)?


EDIT: Just tried the emergency park brake release which appears to reset things. However, when I then operate the park brake I get the screech until I either deactivate it or it goes into fault mode. It does seem like something has come adrift rather than completely broken?

Not yet no. Could I reaet the EPB by a battery disconnect instead?

I dont think the parking brake will reset with a battery pull. There is a procedure you do to reser the handbrake when you change the discs etc which involved driving it an pulling on the handbrake (or actually pulling the electric leaver) when driving. Not sure if it will help or do more damage though. Do you get tension on both cables going to the brakes when its pulled on?

I have a suspicion that I am only getting tension on one side so will investigate that possibility further tomorrow.

There is alot about the screeching and how to resolve it online . Its mostly on the Discovery forums but im not sure if the FFRRs handbrake module / mechanism can be reached as easily. I had mine replaced recently and the rear suspension had to be dropped. I think the screeching is caused by the screw used to pull and release the cables goes past its maximum. 2015 4.4 AB

Sorted with the help of Bodsy's brake bible for the Disco 3. The bang had knocked the shoes out of kilter somehow so I have re set up the parking brake from scratch and fitted new disks and pads at the same time...no more screeching or bongs or flashing warning lights.
