Have the dreaded EAS / HDC faults, and after some investigation with my IIDTool, and help from Patrick, the most likely culprit is the Steering Angle Sensor...

IIDTool shows under 'live values' that the values are not changing - although when I first switched it on, it seemed ok, but then stuck at -1.433kdeg when I went to full lock, and remained there - even after switching off and on again...

So it would seem that I need to switch out the Steering Angle Sensor - has anyone had any experiance of this? Any hints, tips, thoughts, etc? (I did do a search...!!!)

Yes - I'm being lead to believe this is a 4 hour job to get to the part, and then another 4 hours to put it back together again!!!

And then it will need initialised and calibrated on a T4.... (IIDTool functionality coming, but not soon enough for me unfortunately! At least being able to diagnose, and confirm with live values is a major plus!) l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l

Yes indeed - should have said that!!!

In fact it was doing the whole reset thing that showed me it sticking when on full lock...

Its just had a new compressor, as when I bought it that was the code it was throwing (bought at a very good price as a trade sale - after we'd put it on a T4 - knew there were things to get sorted, but absolutley priced in... )

And one of the first things I did was replace the battery (would appear to have been the original from 2002...), check the alternator was charging properly, and fling a solar charger on it, as it only really gets used at the weekends... l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l

Update - friend who is a main dealer LR mechanic has told me the steering column can come out without taking whole dash out... waiting for more info! (and some help!!! ) l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l

Update:

Err 20 mins.... that's what it took him...

Steering nacelle trim off (3 torx screws)
3 bits of trim under in the footwell (each side, and the bit above the pedals - about 5 torx screws in total)
Undo sensor multi-plug (try not to cut cable tie)
1 13mm pinch bolt on the column.
4 13mm bolts holding the column in place

Make sure the steering wheel's lined up straight (as there was no room to mark where it was being split)
Pull the column apart
Slide off the old sensor
Slide on the new sensor
Push the column back to gether again - ensureing steering wheel still straight
Replace pinch bolt
Replace multi-plug
Replace 4 13mm bolts

Plug in IIDTool - ensure new unit now has a changing reading under live values!

Next steps - take to LR dealershio next weekend for new part to be intialised and calibrated on T4... l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l

It is indeed - more so because everything I had read on various sites/forums had said this was a dash out job! Also, people are apparently being quoted 8 hours of labour to get this done (4 to take dash out, 4 to put it back in again!) l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l

i did mine today, but did not finish the job, the problem i have is trying to reinstall the 2 upper retaining bolts that hold the steering column.

i can get the lower ones in but not the uppers, there is not a lot of access room to get to them. the bolts appear to be 13mm but sit loose in the socket, so they won't sit straight when i offer them up and 12mm socket will not fit.

i'll have another go tomorrow and remove the lower ones and trying installing the upper ones first maybe.
any one contemplating the job, you end up a contortionist and sore after, but is will be quicker than taking the dash out.

put some "blu tack" in the socket first, it will hold the bolt beter.

I could not get those top 2 hidden bolts back , I was sore from croaching and trying to get access to them. It must be nibble bodied person job, I resorted to pulling the dash a part, not that hard a job and made install the steering column bolts easier. I can see how to do it the short cut method and it would have worked if I could get the 2 upper bolts in.
