Hi all

Ive spent the last hour reading almost all of this thread! I am tackling this job over the comes days as I think I have cold but no heat on both seats of a 2012 Westminster. Its probably the usual culprits but just wondering has anyone tried this source:

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002385359494.html

Its €77 for both duct and peltier.

Unplug the multiplug on the peltier unit and put a multimeter between the yellow and the blue cables. A healthy unit should be around 10 ohms. When the units blow, they often read c. 1kohm.

It's quite typical of a failed peltier to cool but not heat. When you try heat, you'll hear the fans kick in then after about 10 seconds, the seat ECU detects the fault and cuts the circuit. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

That Aliexpress seller is in the Russian Federation so delivery to UK is banned, might be same in EU. I might try to find that stuff from another source. 2011c Vogue SE 4.4 Oil Burner

Another source, this time in the UK but the pricing is rather ambitious. Unless, of course, you can take advantage of the free fitting in which case not too shabby at all.

Fouind this in the workshop manual if it helps anyone. (not much)
Climatic Seats
High specification vehicles are fitted with climatic seats, which are able to deliver heating and cooling to the front seat occupants. Vehicles fitted with climatic seats feature 2 additional rotary controllers mounted in the ATC module.
• NOTE: If climatic seats are fitted, heated seat rotary controllers are featured on the ATC module control panel.
The controlling software for the climatic seats is contained within a control module mounted below the drivers seat. When a temperature selection is made through either of the rotary controllers, the instrument panel switch pack provides a PWM signal to the control module. The control module interprets the PWM signal as a temperature value and attempts to heat or cool the seat accordingly. Both climatic front seats contain two Peltier cells; one in the cushion, one in the backrest. The Peltier cells are able to deliver heating and cooling based on a voltage provided by the control module. Each seat also contains a fan, which blows air over the Peltier cells to distribute heating or cooling throughout the seat. The climatic seat control module monitors seat heating through a NTC temperature sensor. The temperature sensor is only used to monitor seat heating. Seat cooling is open loop, with no temperature signal provided back to the control module. Although the switch LED's will illuminate if a selection is made when the ignition is switched on, the Peltier cells will not operate until the engine is running. After the ignition has been switched off, the control module will remember the current temperature settings for approximately 15 minutes. After this period, the seats will be set to 'off' when the ignition is
switched back on. 2011c Vogue SE 4.4 Oil Burner

Very informative thread. It’s given me plenty of pointers. I have an L494 Autobiography and realised not long after purchasing it that neither the heated or cooled function works on the driver seat. The passenger side heats and cools as it should. After reading this thread I stripped the back off the driver seat and checked the fan unit. I took it out and checked the resistance of the temperature sensor and Peltier cell. The temperature sensor was about 3 ohms and the Peltier cell was open line. I’m not sure if it can be open line or not? The fact neither heat or cooling work could it be the control module that’s the issue?

Hi,

It sounds like the peltier, I had the same symptoms and confirmed by swapping left to right.

I've not seen anyone who's successfully repaired a peltier itself, I tried unsuccessfully twice by swapping out from a scrap evoque unit, they are much cheaper and easire to source.

No dice though, eventually I sent it off to these guys for replacement, they'll disassemble it, fix whatever's broken incuding the flex tube and then ship it back for £150.

search EBAY for eBay Item No. 204520708381.

New complete units are available for crazy prices. Unfortunately whoever is repairing these are keeping quite on the source of the spare parts and if you go to the maker they just say they are not available so I've no idea where they're getting them from.

Awesome, cheers for that Andy. Was it just the back unit that was an issue for you? Neither of the fan units work in my diver seat. I did read on another forum it’s very rare that both go.

Hi,

If I remember correctly if you keep it on cool then both back and base fans run by default, if you select back only then the base fan doesn't run. So on cool both should work fine even if you have a peltier fault.

However, it seems to be that if there is a fault with the backrest peltier then it shuts the back & base off after a few seconds if you've selected heat.

So if both your fans are running on cool, but just shutting down on heat then it's unlikely to be the fans themselves, they're just doing what they're told to by the ECU.

To be honest I've never known a fan go in itself, they're not stressed and the ECU will control them based on the backrest. It seems to me that they only have fault monitoring on the backrest. I've had the base peltier fail and it had no effect on the backrest nor the running of the base fan it just blew cold air.

If your passenger seat backrest heating is working, substitute that across to the driver's side, see if that fixes all the issues, they're interchangeable. If that's not working either then I'm afraid your going to have to take a punt on the faulty part, the backrest peltier being the most likelt source of the problem.

Sorry can't give you a definitive answer, it's not the most robust of systems and parts are hard to come by, hence why I opted to pull it and give it to someone else to fix.
