Says a Land Rover started it.

Nobody hurt thankfully. Sounds like a few insurance claims will be happening today. Shocked

1400 vehciles destroyed!

Not sure how they can tell A Land Rover started it, sounds a bit of a stretch to start blaming a Land Rover...

I mean why would they say that so early on? Must be a mistake.

They probably meant a Range Rover.

I can't believe that I'm saying this, but that grotty little rag, The Sun, seems to provide the most information on this:

Hang on a minute, don't car parks all have sprinkler systems?

Being Liverpool, I wonder how many of the cars weren't insured. Wink

I played the video from the Sun link - looks like a Stornaway L322.

Can't see any sprinkler pipes in the ceiling either. Jeez!

1400 cars taken out. By a L322 Shocked

Who here would be able to tell me how much affect that sprinkler systems have on diesel and petrol fires?

Don't know myself but I had a project where a communal area to a block of flats wanted storage lockers put in. Sounded simple but the fire regs were crazy and it all related to the possibility that somebody might store flammable items.

Would have thought that a public car park would need to meet some kind of safety mark. That's a lot of fuel in a lot of tanks, I'm surprised it wasn't worse.

Hope nobody here lost a car. And lucky no injuries or worse.

. Cheers, Greg

Water from sprinklers would have no effect on a diesel or petrol fire. However once the fuel was burned off the sprinklers would reduce and probably extinguish any subsequent fire. Bearing in mind however as each new vehicle caught fire a new source of fuel would be available to ignite, and so the cycle would continue until suitable suppressants were available.
Still surprised a single vehicle fire caused such damage.

I guess you're right about the sprinklers NDFI.

Stan it's an under bonnet fire so could be related to that other one you mentioned.

 Cheers, Greg

I was thinking heater motor fire but would have thought that would only happen if the ignition was switched on, unless it started before they switched it off and they didn't notice.

Must be a bad feeling knowing your car caused all that.

Yeah mirrors are folded. It looks at that point like the cabin is unaffected so maybe not the heater motor like the other one. I'm no CSI but looks further forward.

It's not got the sharks fin aerial so that's an early one as Stan mentioned.
