I am new to the forum and thought that the journey I have been on over the last few weeks, and that of the one in front of me, I think it may be interesting to document on the forum.

In summary, I bought a 2011 L322 Range Rover 4.4 TDV8 Vogue with an engine failed - the car had been sat for over a year in a yard while a car dealer and a garage thought a legal battle over what the dealer saw as incompetence workmanship to fix the problem by the garage. (or so I am told)

After 115k, following a turbo fail, this L322 Range Rover 4.4 TDV8 threw in the towel; absolutely destroyed the engine. From what I am told by the dealer, the garage they originally took the car to failed them; originally advising to replace the turbos without performing some basic checks for internal damage to the engine. After replacing both turbo's ( ) and still not being able to get the engine to start they eventually started stripping it down to investigate further.

The engine had experienced significant internal damage due to the particles of metal from the disintegrated turbo being circulated through the engine/induction. I am told when the engine failure happened; there was a very very large bang!

Anyway looking for my next challenge, and upon negotiating a good price, I bought it; with the engine out, and in bits.... a proper grown-up jigsaw.

The car arrived at my garage on Friday 7th June, looking sad on a flatbed with the engine on a pallet in bits; at which point I must admit I thought; what the heck have I got myself into.

Over the last couple of weeks, I have been looking at all my options and taking lots of advice.

Taking into account the damaged caused to the existing engine, I finally decided to purchase a brand new engine. Trying to source a new L322 engine at an affordable price has proved challenging; however, based on some advice I purchased the same long bare/main 4.4 TDV8 engine intended for an L405; whereby, my understanding is the sump would need to be swapped over from my old engine (I hope).

Anyway, between my old L322 engine and the new L405 engine; I've enough of a jigsaw to get the new engine working in the car. (with the shiny new turbo's)

Engine arrives onsite today and the journey starts next week to get her back on the road.

I thought some of the forum members might find this of interest, and maybe one or two of you might be able to offer any advice/pointers; all of which is totally welcome as I jump into the black hole.

that is a good project. Keep us updated with plenty of pics.  There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
