Battery replacement - questions!

The RR didn’t want to start yesterday. I put a battery charger on it and the car drove nicely about one hour later.

Later, I got out the voltmeter and got 14.3V running, but only 12.06V with the car off and a good 5 hours on charge. So, I think I need a new battery, right?

I seen some scary warning about unplugging the battery and also a nice video on how to extra-raise the bonnet to get in there. So, what do I need to know about actually changing the battery other than NEG off first and on last?

Any precautions other than waiting for two minutes after engine switch off for the computers to shut down?

If the doors are opened or unlocked, will that wake the computers, or am I good along as it’s 2 min since running the engine?

I have a battery charger. Should I try connecting it to the battery terminals to try and not interrupt the power? Is that worth trying?

If the power IS interrupted, what needs to be done to reset everything? (I remember something about turning the steering wheel lock-to-lock.)

Last time I replaced a battery I didn't. I know that sounds like a bit of nonsense but the car was due a service so I said to the guy doing the service "Oh by the way there's a battery on the floor behind the passengers seat can you fit it please" Very Happy . He did but I have changed batteries myself on previous Range Rovers with no problem. Disconnect, remove old battery, put new battery in place and reconnect. I did the steering thing and also had to reset the date, time etc. The waiting time people speak of was, in my case, the time it took to remove the old and position the new battery. Geoff

My 62 plate Westminster 4.4 V*8. diesel is pulling 11.4 volts and needs a boost to start. The battery is a Jaguar one, althought given the vehicle's age, unlikely to be the original.

Does anyone have any recommendations of specific replacement batteries please.
I had a Yuasa in my Disco V8 which seemed sufficiently robust. My Land Rovers, so far:
Defender 90 V8 County
Disco V8S
Disco V8 GS
Freelander 1 TD4
Freelander 1 V6
RR L322 Westminster

I ended up getting an original one from the local dealer. They had a deal on at the time. Think it was about £170.

Worth trying to get a price, if only for comparison purposes.

I was umming & errring about changing the battery myself, but in the end it was a very simple, basic operation.
I bought one of these ‘security torx’ sockets & it was plain sailing.
